Mind & Infra Red Controlled Robot Car

I tried one of those EEG-control headsets on demo at a computer retailer.... "ERROR - NO INPUT DETECTED!!" ;)

    Circuit with piranha leds

As advised above, you should run LED's at a lower current than rated. In practice, you can drop the current quite a bit before it becomes apparent. 2 series'ed CR2032 cells will output 6V so you could add the total forward voltage rating Vf of each LED until just below the 6V level. To drop...

    DT 9205A digital multimeter

Try to download a schematic of the DMM. On the schematic, trace the switch functions vs positions and which components they go to. Follow the same paths on the PCB switch-tracks. Now you can see which circular tracks should be bridged when. From there you can align the contacts correctly. Some...

    Getting kids into electronics

As a curious kid I loved stripping toys etc to see what makes them tick. My parents got me one of those educational electronic kits (spring connectors). Dad explained how a crystal set and radio waves work, while we built one. I was hooked.

    Weird PC problem

Hot-glue a packet of silica gel in an unused corner of your cabinet interior (in addition to above tips). Camera retailers sell them, or salvage from a new electronic purchase (printer, etc).

    My New Toy :)

Nice camera Dave. Also recently upgraded from cellphone imaging to Pentax K2000 DSLR. No more blurry pics. Still learning all functions. Took macro of (old) LM380 audio mini-amp as a test.

Help with powering a circuit board

If using it next to your desktop, and your computer's PSU has enough wattage, you could get regulated 5VDC from the outer pins 1 and 4 of a USB port. 1=Vcc+ (Red) ; 4=0V (Black). Suggest you first check the load of the screen, and current capacity of your PSU for 5 volts. Clive.

I Want To Make A Device That Tells Me That Electricity Is Back

Take 1 x high-speed floor-standing fan. Using stiff cardboard, attach a strip to the finger-guard at back so that blades hit cardboard. Bend remaining card sheet into a large cone fixed to the front. Force a referee's whistle into the tapered end. Place fan next to bed, select highest speed...

How to minimize acoustic mike<loudspeaker feedback?

To prevent howl, would delaying the signal-path help? Low volume or headphones helps, but play guitar "live" and problem of feedback surfaces. An idea I had is to use a passive analog delay-line in the input circuit. I have a circuit for this, somewhere... Hopefully this would decrease the...

I Want To Make A Device That Tells Me That Electricity Is Back

Correction to 'Mains Power-On' circuit: Thanks for the heads-up re circuit-errors @AnalogKid . Mains power-on was an old hand-drawn circuit in a notebook. I omitted joining "dot" (D1/D2/BZ1) & didn't verify it before 1st post.:cool: (need new specs??) :D --- Mods: Found circuit was...

Replacing light bulbs with LED's for illuminating a radio's scale

Regarding the diffuser, I've been thinking of an idea, open to suggestions: For camera flashguns, and on a larger scale, fluorescent light-fittings, you get a perspex diffuser. These come in different thicknesses and pattern densities, from "moire-pattern" fine to bumpy. As they don't block...

Best/safest way to use car radio as a garage radio

The 12VDC (Yellow&Black) of a spare computer-P.S.U. rated 180 W will supply 10 amps so easily handles 5 A. Just house it in a expanded mesh cage, earthed, with a roof to prevent liquids spilling in. Or a switched power-pack I have is rated 12V DC @ 5A and is sold for small LCD TV's, PVR's, etc...

Immersion water heater in a metal cup

Generally, the chrome plating peels off and starts corrosion, leaks, shocking within weeks. Absolute rubbish IMO. (Camping / contracts away). Add: Dunno availability in THL, but here I've seen a mini-hotplate about 3in (75mm) diameter. May cost a bit more than imm. heater tho...

    "Sharp" inverter a/c.

@A.McC your unit has a metal ID/spec-plate which has the three XP series models one one plate. Check in the printed boxes next to these - one of them (should) have a mark, like 'X'.

I Want To Make A Device That Tells Me That Electricity Is Back

@tonitobato - do you have electronics construction skills? (component identification, soldering, safety knowledge (mains V!!) ) Otherwise get somebody to build it for you. If so, read schematic below. Mine used buzzers (active piezo sounders), but you can replace with dropper resistor/LED...
