Bypass light control in ceiling fan?

If the control box is approx. 6" x 3" x 2" high, then it is a remote control add on.

modified clothing dryer for low heat function?

The idea of a variac may well cook your motor too if you're not careful.

Need help with commercial floor fan please

This part I can follow and seems to be logical conclusion. However what comes after is rather confusiong as to what goes where. Perhaps pencil out a sketch...... I suspect you might have the cap connected to the wrong section. Again, cannot be certain as you do not say.

Need help with commercial floor fan please

MacGyver perhaps..?? Seriously though, no one would know from a distance unless they have the exact same fan pulled apart or could chase down a schematic of that particular model. I do notice you say, "looks like" and no way to determine by colour. Colours are not, as many think, a definite...

modified clothing dryer for low heat function?

The temperature is normally taken care of with a thermo disc. Just insert a lower temperature unit and you should be good to go. As for the temp level, it is always a good move to consult Google. First up in a search determined 125 degrees F for low, and 135 for medium/high for cotton etc. This...

Replacing LCD instrument readout with LED readout.

The way the LCD is illuminated from the rear or side has already been explained. If you get satisfactory result with some other means then great...but it doesn't change the former.

Can only see black remains on the switcher (#14) mounted on the heatsink. Probably just a dodgy unit.

    Potentiometer recommendation

Any device used to lower the power to the lamp would need sufficiently high enough power rating. Pot as such generally are rather low, perhaps 1/4w and not suitable. You do not say whether ac or dc and no other voltages are quoted so impossible to say. If dc, then it may be possible to dim the...

Is it safe (for the equipment) to power Raspberry Pi with 5V offset 240VAC inputs

Just use transformer isolation and be safe. Non-isolated supplies are definetely not for the open wiring environment nor the amatuer.

Replacing LCD instrument readout with LED readout.

Pull that apart it'll probably never work again. Looks like one of the LCD's that get the works through a rubber strip.

Help with something I cant find info on anywhere!

Look at Arduino and sound generator (sd card) Will be a steep learning curve but there is a large amount of helpful projects out there already. May need to be modified to suit your particular need. Below is an example, way more than you need but.....

Newbe need help with solenoid kicker project.

Sounds like a gun to me and I'll bet to all intents and purposes to those in higher authority. As I said, regardless of what you may like to call it.
