    Existing ignition battery supply could feed the 12v DC CDI module i referred to. Use the GY6 coil and try with the original Kipor trigger. All a bit trial and error I guess. Would only cost about $25 to try.

    Fair enough....I only went by what is normally primary coil resistance in CDI versus battery ignition. As the details of the whole system are fairly scarce, it becomes a bit of a guess or as in your findings, ripping one apart.:):) What I was suggesting was some form of alternative.

    Perhaps think along the lines of using Lipo cells. 3 cell pack will fall within your required voltage level. The higher C rating designed for high current discharge.

    It will do either depending how it is set up. Normal approach is to connect in a voltage divider arrangement and if the LDR is in the top leg, effect is opposite to that when it is in the bottom leg. There are small modules on Ebay etc. which have a comparator so you can select the switching...

    Lawnmowers are magnetos with a dedicated flywheel/ magnet placement arrangement. If you can machine the crankshaft to a taper, machine a keyway, all to suit the "lawnmower flywheel" and then mount the magneto in the appropriate position, then sure.

    They,re designed for small model engines. At around Aus$80 to $90 a piece, I wouldn't take a chance on it. Plenty of pocket rocket (mini motorcycles) systems out there with cheap bits e.g. coils for $6 to $8 but you have to have some idea of what you are doing.

    I follow the specs and have no problems. Set the voltage on the pot to conform with requirements for the motors I use. I don't bother with 3v3 promini's,use the 5v instead.
