Confusing about grounding for regular AC-DC SMPS

MEN system. Australia for at least one. As far as "am I right" , I think some of your queries are "dreamed up" or at least "don't work like that".

C curve type MCB trip due to high transformer inrush current

We had exactly the same problem on Clipsal LEM transformers for operating rooms ( a bank of 15) and were instructed by Clipsal to change the breaker type. Never worked, and they had no other suggestion. I might add that sometimes (depending on where in the cycle the power reconnected I imagine)...

Treadmill Console Button Panel Ribbon Cable Fail

Normally these ribbons will crack and break. Have never seen one with a short section which appears to have overheated. I'm guessing somehow the cable has "corroded" internally (within the plastic shroud) just in the area of the "overheat mark". There seems to be "internal corrosion" on...

    Movement sensor

Don't like to rain on your parade but gravity doesn't have any horizontal effect. For the IR opto if any slot is unacceptable, a reflective unit could be used but adjustment will have to be allowed for depending on the color of the coin. As an example a reflective surface (mirror) on the...

Frigidaire CFMV164LSA over-the-range microwave capacitor location

I would not recommend sticking your fingers in anywhere until it is verified it is isolated from the mains supply.

    Wanted: electrical ferrules

Bootlace terminals are not made for breadboard. One could twist in a loose end from a male Dupont Wire Jumper Cable and crimp and heatshrink that I guess. Have to remember that breadboards are largely for signal wiring and iffy even with that.

Broken LCD display on Makita 104 Radio

The models with a larger display are an integrated proprietary item. Couldn't find any with a 16x2 display to see any tear-down images. Worth looking though as a $2.00 lcd might be adaptable as Bob says.(pics)

Frigidaire CFMV164LSA over-the-range microwave capacitor location

Why don't you just simply isolate the power?

    water alarm

Fair enough....I assume condensation from machinery parked outdoors. Never seen it in the generator systems before. Then again they are mostly indoors and the outdoor one probably just depends on the water trap. The latter being more practical I would imagine. Seen alarms go off before and no...

Powering device with Cat5e data cable

From memory, the old days bell wire twin was around the same size as cat5 cable. I'm wondering why you don't just "suck it and see"?

    water alarm

Don't know about that. Common practice to have a variable resistor type gauge in petrol tanks supplied by regulated 5v. Not to mention pressure motors completely submerged in petrol tanks. I'd say petrol would be more volatile than diesel. I'm just curious why there would be the need to look...

Powering device with Cat5e data cable

Length of run also determines voltage drop which must be taken into account. Just note that if this is an existing cable presently used as networking, what you are about to do could violate many countries communications laws. Telco's tend to come down heavily on those that fiddle and damage...

anyone know any good keyboard controllers?

Mame cabinet (and similar) builders are using Rasberry Pi as the main unit and usb type keyboard/button switch encoders these days. Simple as........ Bit of an idea which way to go look here.....much better than taking a stab in the dark and ending up spending money on something you can't use...

Is it wrong to leave a transformer plugged in ??

Thing is, in Thailand they make the kitchen cabinets and the tops etc from concrete and tile. Do a really nice job of it too I might add.

THIS is a good paint job...

Good one. The 3d sidewalk paintings always fascinated me. Combine the above with one of those FM tx sticks that playback through the radio with the "Harley" sound in sync with the accelerator pedal and you have your elcheapo Harley.
