    BT-693 speaker system

Hi Guys, OK, now you might understand what I meant “me being reluctant to power up things that has “exploded” without first try to diagnose it!” ??  It’s easy to get electrocuted or burn your fingers while unwittingly putting this plug into the outlet!  :o I am glad you found the problem...

    WIRE GAGE --Big Chart

Hi Cryonic, There are two issues here when it comes to the rolled up cord, one is the direct ascending temperature from the current flow which occur rolled up or not. The other one is the inductively generated temperature due to the rolled up cord forming a coil which has very little to do with...

    BT-693 speaker system

Hi Stagien, Why not, it has already thrown sparks around the place once according to Logans mom!  ;)

    BT-693 speaker system

If it’s a glitch in a solder joint or connector it might spark again when you move it causing the spark to hit your face!  ;D ;D

    BT-693 speaker system

Hi Stagien, Maybe you are right; it’s just me being reluctant to power up things that has “exploded” without first try to diagnose it!  ;D

    BT-693 speaker system

Does it have any openings in the back or side like gratings to let the air in for cooling? This is where a spark could find its way out from some rectifier of capacitor when it “exploded”! Have a close look at the parts near here and remember; do NOT have it plugged in while messing around inside!

OK, and I suppose this is the same as the one with the mains supply in it?

Hi Guys, logan: You said your mom saw something sparked; can she point out the spot where it came from?

    BT-693 speaker system

Hi logan, Really smart move giving it away to avoid any warranty!  >:( Well, I guess you did not find any fuse inside or outside? BTW does it run of a wall wart or is there an onboard mains circuit? This is a bit fumbling in the dark but we have to start some ware don’t we? ;)

What kind of solder do you use, must be some old extreme stuff. Throw it away if it makes you sick and buy the new lead-free solder instead. If you got sick for two weeks from this is very serious, are you sure it wasn’t a bad pizza or something else?

    12V to 5V

Hi shaiqbashir, Have you looked at the other alternative the L4970A? Any of these alternatives should work but as I mentioned before; in the case of the MAX724 it needs a boost power transistor since you are going above 5A in your application. 8)

    12V to 5V

Hi AG, I don’t know why you think a MAX724 Circuit as I described it would brake!?!?  “MAX724 with a boost power transistor”!! I attach a circuit for 12A!

    12V to 5V

Hi AG, shaiqbashir, The L4970A can supply 10A and will do the job without wasting 60% of the energy from the battery; it will waste only about 12 – 15%! An alternative is the MAX724 with a boost power transistor which also have the same high efficiency!

Hi Cryonic, I have been in Holland many times, I really love everything about it from the tulips and the cheese to the channels and the floodgates. From where I live in Sweden there is only 650km to Amsterdam. And I am the proud owner of a pair of cloggies too! ;D

    charger for Cordless phone battery.

Hi fever, That’s correct for C/10 but I suggested 15mA so that you could leave the pack unattended for an “unlimited” period of time. If you like you can add another 82 Ohm resistor in parallel to have C/10 – 14 h charge. I made a drawing for you, if you leave the switch open its C/20 if closed...

Hi AG, Yeah, there are thing which don’t add up but as long as it’s not deleted I suppose we have to be grateful! ;)
