    Reduce DC voltage, How? please..

Hi Alun, Less parts is simpler, OK? A pot costs more than a diode where I live; I don’t know the proportions where you buy your stuff. The regulators are the same prize if I chose the LM7809 for 1.5A, if I settle for 1A (which would be enough here) it’s cheaper than the LM317T. But this is...

    5v to 1.25-2v

Hi Jordan, Anyway, you can change this circuit from the 2.5 – 4.1V range to 1.25 – 2V if you like but it will get even warmer than before! If you parallel some MOSFETs and put them on a big heatsink with a fan you just might get away with it! If the computer in question is equipped with water...

    Gas turbine bike.

Hi Audioguru, Expensive toys but I suppose they buy these turbines as surplus or scrap. A small postage stamp on one of the blade ends will cause havoc and breakdown weighing plenty at these revs! Nice hobby though! 8) AJB2K3; you have to reduce the RPMs with an extra pre-gearing or you will...

    Reduce DC voltage, How? please..

Hi Alun, Will work too, but more work, more parts and more expensive! ;D Steve like it as simple as possible. 8)

    Gas turbine bike.

This German guy is deeply involved with turbines and you could perhaps find some answers here: http://www.technologie-entwicklung.de/Gasturbines/gasturbines.html Lots of interesting pics and videos here. ;D

Hi Jordan, Why do you call the attached design “switching”?

    Choice of switching regulator IC

It’s also possible to modify an old PC PSU to make it variable and change the voltage to any voltage you need.

    Reduce DC voltage, How? please..

Hi Guys, If you put a standard diode between the gnd pin and negative rail (cathode to negative rail) on the 7809 you will get 9.6Volts. This will also reduce the heat in the regulator. 8)

    Choice of switching regulator IC

Hi autir, I don’t have anything ready for you but take a look at : http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/acrobat_download/datasheets/TEA1552_2.pdf It might give you something to start with. Similar ICs can be found with other manufacturers too.

Hi Audioguru, It’s a spectacular sound and light show for sure! ;D Yes, that’s what I meant “I know at least two easier ways to keep my beers cool!” 8)

    Help for power supply.

The problem is; there is too much power to “burn away” for the circuit to survive! Simply put; (20A times 40 Volts = (800W / by 4 transistors)) = melt down!

Hi Guys, Don’t you just love that lawn mover? ;D I know I do! ;D Some useful turbine sites: This is what they do on New Zeeland: http://www.asciimation.co.nz/beer/ Here you can order turbines for your bike: http://www.swbturbines.com/model_turbines.htm This is puls jet ...

    Help for power supply.

Hi, I was worried about the (0 – 30Volts) not the 20A if the circuit stays as the original at 13.8V I can see no big problems with it supplying 20A (with an 18Volts transformer). If I understand you correctly; what you like to have here is an adjustable current regulation 0 to 20A.  If you look...

    Choice of switching regulator IC

Hi Alun, The IC:s which are made for this purpose are equipped with several options for various kinds of protection. The standard way of doing this is by means of a galvanic insulated transformer…. as every transformer actually is made!
