    If you don't yet have the motor, you could look out for a DC Treadmill motor and controller, some of the simpler controllers are SCR bridge controlled or the higher end is PWM. These should provide you decent torque without the large gearing needed with the Universal. M.

    What is the reason for going 1/2 wave? Why not use a typical Triac style Universal motor power tool controller. The guy in the utube vid, mentions going full wave also. This method uses a triac followed by a full wave bridge if wishing to go DC. A Universal motor will run on either. M.

    As already stated, the 3 conductors and the other pair constitute two connections to the motor. What I would tend to do is place the conductors on each of sides into a suitably sized single stake-on spade terminal connector and connect this way for the motor pair. M.

    He mentions using a cap from an existing PCM . If it has dual coloured wires, usually the only reason for this on a non-polarized cap is to indicate the connection (blk) to the outer foil when one conductor is to be connected to earth GND in a different application.. M.

    Another common use of SCR's is in some of the Treadmill controllers to control a DC brushed motor with a SCR bridge connected across the incoming AC supply. M.

    These motors generally have 3 windings in series, the switch just switches power to each 3 in turn for the different speeds. M.

    It Probabally is an AC valve, if so the resistance is too low to use on DC. The other style that gets hot if left connected is a magnetic latch valve or solenoid. M.
