    In N.A., Chamberlain is one of the largest residential door opening systems, supplies Sears etc, they typically use a 220/230v rated capacitor. Higher voltage will make no difference . M.

    Sounds and looks like you may have a thermocouple junction, but these are generally used for set point temperature settings, the alternative thermal bi metal switch (as already shown) is often used for one particular on/off set point in your application.. M.

    For one, you should have BEMF diodes across the relay coils. Also your regulating zener should have a series resistor, depending on what the bridge DC voltage out is. M.

    Not really, because now you don't have the total resistance that comes into play such as brush carbon resistance, which varies greatly with composition, copper content etc. M.

    It is considered more reliable test, an ohm meter is very low current and the the brush content and contact and any comm carbon film can affect the very low current reading. M.

    Personally a stepper motor would not be my first choice by any means, the nature of the output and the natural cogging effect would deter me. I would prefer a DC motor or a BLDC if wishing to go brushless, a BLDC generates 3 phase when back fed. M.
