***A stupid question maybe?! --- When you purchase a microcontroller

I use PicMicro and MPLB IDE and the ICSP is used to load the application program only via Pickit3. M.

DC motor, higher voltage just on start...

Likewise, If it were me I would be curious to find out exactly what the area of the problem source is, is it due to electrical or mechanical causes?. IOW do an autopsy on an old unit. Rather than coming up with some jury rigged solution that may be just a temporary patch. M.

Generally a Neon lamp, but it appears in series with an incandescent? M.

DC motor, higher voltage just on start...

As has been suggested, you are probably going to cause more grief that way. In any case a series cap would not supply the current demand as it is. What I imagine is happening is the hydraulic pump is starting with a higher than normal initial current condition caused by immediate pump pressure...

replacing relay modules with ssr module HELP

What is the voltage, AC or DC on the output side, have you thought of putting together some simple ones based on a opto, 4n35 etc and a mosfet etc? M.

New (NOS) switches with contact problems -how to fix?

You could sacrifice one just to determine the cause. This also may indicate if they actually were in use at one time. M.

Help to make an old analogue factory 500 amp meter become a sound meter

If it is moving coil there should be a number on the dial somewhere that states mA/volt. If so you can convert to voltmeter, which is what you need by the look of it. This meter was originally designed for a low resistance shunt in parallel. Actually I enlarged it and it does say Moving Iron...

    Looking for current sensor switch

Have you checked out the ASC712 modules on ebay, they are under $2.00. They go in 5a 10a 20a 30a types. They typically output 100Mv/amp. M.

Help to make an old analogue factory 500 amp meter become a sound meter

Unfortunately It appears to be a moving iron meter, otherwise you would have been able to convert it to a high impedance voltmeter, I think you will find the impedance to low to be useful in the role you want it in. M.

    Rheostat vs PWM

That current seems extrordinarily high for a shunt field, what HP motor is it? M.

    Rheostat vs PWM

What voltage is the motor operating at? I have never used PWM on a wound field, you could possibly pick up one of the $5.00 ones off ebay and try it. What is the reason for not applying full torque and load at start? M.

Home automation and question about Neutral generation

NEC permits connecting to earth ground only if a earth reference is required on isolated supplies. This is a reference only and not a current carrying conductor. Connecting to the neutral to obtain a ground reference is not permitted. M.

Home automation and question about Neutral generation

No1. The neutral should be connected to earth ground at the service panel Only, NOwhere else. you should not connect to a neutral with a local DC supply, if you need a ground reference then a earth ground connection should be made to the nearest earth receptacle etc. M.

41 volts in my DVD's AV output jack ground.

Yes they will indicate a reading on stray voltage. Just as the neon type test screwdrivers will light a neon with minute current through the body to ground. You have to do the verification test I mentioned. M.

41 volts in my DVD's AV output jack ground.

I wager you are using a high impedance VOM, you can get all kinds of misleading readings unless you take steps to quantify it, any time you get some unrealistic reading from some point to ground, place a resistor across the points being measured and see if the voltage collapses or is no longer...

    Rheostat vs PWM

Presumably a shunt field motor? what is the reason for controlling the field? higher rpm at the cost of torque? Normally the field is varied very little unless higher rpm is required and the rotor is controlled, PWM etc. M.

    Motor doesn't work

If it is a DC motor and connected backwards it would just run in reverse, you mention it is not even running? Is there any details on the motor itself? Is this something that worked OK previously or did you get it used? M.

    Electric Motor high pitch sound

If they ARE bronze, not lithium grease. WD-40 is OK for washing out residue but allow to evaporate and then no heavier than SAE 5 or 10 is best. Yes, submerse it if necessary. One reason you need thin oil, beware when starting it will fling some off so initially cover it. M.

    Electric Motor high pitch sound

+1 on bearings, usually sintered (porous) bronze, you may be lucky lube'ing them, if the motor does not come apart easily, dip the whole motor in light oil for an hour and then let it drain for another hour. M.

Question regarding ic / microcontroller chips

It is conceivable to do this, not sure why, but if the impedance of each source was sufficiently high it might work. Another method could be to hold one in reset, when the other operated. If actually performing programming then it would be advisable to remove power on the other IC. M.
