Help with sensing a stopped sprocket

I have a sprocket and a prox on hand so I should be able to test to a great extent. M.

Help with sensing a stopped sprocket

I might look at using the Timer1 clock in for timing, if going that route I would use a watch ('32.768Khz') crystal. They are pretty cheap anyway, but why not hang on until I see if I come up with something fruitful first. Incidentally do you really need the relay, I would envisage interfacing...

Automation seems easy but what am I missing?!?!

I make a point of not using AC solenoids, but much prefer the DC variety, I have see too many coil burn outs with AC especially if the armature spool fails to completely move over for some reason, also some have manually poked the armature over when the other side of a double coil type ending up...

Help with sensing a stopped sprocket

What ever works. I have to put together another programming board for the 8 pin anyway, as all my development boards are 18 pin and up. I may have given it away, but only takes about 3 or 4 components to hook up to a Pickit3. BTW, I only program in assembly. I shall explore it anyway, even if...

Help with sensing a stopped sprocket

There is one method using a Pic of recording the interval between pulses (sprocket teeth). If the period between them reaches the time interval or IOW if a sprocket is seen and the next fails to appear in the allotted time, then stop. M.

Help with sensing a stopped sprocket

Yes that is the one i have around, it has some nice features for a 8 pin pic. There is one small down side using a 5v device, you will need a 7805 to drop to 5v. Also the program I have in mind will depend on the maximum time you reckon on between between one tooth and the next . M.

Help with sensing a stopped sprocket

I have only used the pic, the 12F 8 pin series would do it. M.

Automation seems easy but what am I missing?!?!

The only down side I have to the ebay $2.00 board versions is the tiny (15a) terminals they use for the current, I would up them to at least 25/30amp. M.

Help with sensing a stopped sprocket

I could look at what the smallest Pic would do it. Have you ever used a μproc at all? M.

Automation seems easy but what am I missing?!?!

You can pick up cheap contactors on ebay, My favourite brand is the DIN style by Telemecanique, they can be fitted with all kinds of auxiliaries down to the simple N.O/N.C. contact style. For a non invasive current sensors, there is the Honeywell CSDA range, there is also the ACS712 for an...

Help with sensing a stopped sprocket

If you are still in need, I revamped the circuit, it is not the most elegant way, a small micro, Pic etc would have also done it with a few less components. The DWG shows two 555 but a single 556 will do it also. M.

    Motor Speed Controller

What you need is either one of the KB DC drives or a MC-60 T.M. motor controller. Both run direct off of the AC line, in UK with 230vac you will have to limit the rpm. so out of the two the KB has the 230v version. M.

Old Wagner electric 1 HP 1 phase Type RA motor

I don't come across many motors with zerk fitting any more as most motor now use sealed bearings, they also tend to stay free of contamination, if replacing them anytime, it may be worth considering fitting the sealed variety. M.
