I have a broken linear encoder that I want to repair...

Is it optical or inductive/capacitive? It could be cured by cleaning and drying, especially if optical. Use de-natured alcohol on the scale. M.

misc idea: small (3-phase BLDC) motors with built-in drivers.

The drives I use are A-M-C, Copley Controls, Aerotech, they all use PWM output. A fairly high res motor has 8 poles, with 4 electrical revolutions/mechanical rev, so basically fairly coarse when used open loop. When used with a dedicated servo drive they are capable of much higher resolution...

misc idea: small (3-phase BLDC) motors with built-in drivers.

As someone who has been in the CNC and servo field for many years I would have to refute that, I typically use Galil motion controllers in conjunction with BLDC servo motors and drives . Galil cards handle a feedback frequency of up to 12Mhz and a encoder resolution that is well above anything...

    Electric Shock from 24 volts

I am new to this forum but my opinion it is far better to provide education than close every subject up and say don't go there, particularly as this voltage is well below the N.A. standard considered Low Voltage Rating, and exempt largely from safety regulations. M..

    Electric Shock from 24 volts

Never heard of someone being electrocuted with a Auto battery!! Probabally be first. Considering that the resistance between skin and the heart is in the order of 10's of megohms, the current is hardly measurable.;) Heart shock treatment starts at 5000v. M.

    Name that switch!

Never heard of a commercial product that does this, but I imagine some kind of load cell device, embedded in something you don't choke on or swallow!!:p M.

misc idea: small (3-phase BLDC) motors with built-in drivers.

Hall effect style sensors only generate the commutation point, they are no good for CNC positioning, In CNC use, a BLDC motor is commutated back to the drive , the PID loop requires something with a high resolution such as a incremental quadrature encoder either back to the drive, if it is an...

misc idea: small (3-phase BLDC) motors with built-in drivers.

If wanting something a little more than the likes of Mach4 can offer, you want to look at Kflop for an advanced C customizable system, there is also a Linux based CNC site. To build a complete system from scratch is a herculean project, M.

Although he would never experience more that a few Ma, unless he has a lot of Copper in his system;) M.

    Motor running problems

You may have a problem finding a manufacturer using unique parts. When sourcing parts for appliances in the past, I found many parts that covered different makes and models.;) M.

Also it depends on whether you want position control (closed loop) or velocity/sensorless control (open loop). The typical RC outrunner BLDC uses PWM sensorless control as does the industrial ECM HVAC motor. Closed loop and position control requires a PID loop controller of some kind. M.

    Motor running problems

Unless you buy the very basic models, the N.A. appliances now use a version of the F-P, electronically commutated motor, we just bought a new G.E. pair it is super quiet in operation. M.

    help to a beginner

RS232 serial is one of the oldest methods or serial communication, it still has merit, and Maxim et-al have a 16pin serial IC called MAX232 to incorporate this in arduino and Picmicro applications etc. Many PC's and other peripherals do not come with the COM port anymore, just USB, so a USB to...

    Motor running problems

Did you compare it to the Fischer Paykel motor link I posted? They enable a direct drive system, it does away with the old washing Machine gear box system, they are fairly large in diameter. M.

    help to a beginner

I agree the MAX232 is the easiest to implement, the problem is the PC may not have a COM port available, there are USB/RS232 converters available, not all work as well. M.

Can You Look at This and Tell Me Why It Doesn't Work?

IIRC the power supply is not for the thermostat but what ever it is switching via the internal relays. Many of the modern digital Thermostats run off of the battery alone. All you should need is the Heat side if this is for maintaining the brew temp. I have a simple brew cupboard with a heater...

    Motor running problems

There has been three kinds of washing machine motors over the years, 1ph induction, Universal and currently a common motor is a Fischer - Paykel BLDC motor which are electronically commutated, IOW the have a dedicated controller to program the RPM...

HELP: Solenoid valve Relay circuit with IR sensor

If the solenoid is DC then a reverse diode should be used across the coil as close as possible to the coil, for AC a R/C snubber should be used, they save damage to the board components. M.
