    That's a little higher priced than I'd like for what's there (545 ZAR = 65 USD) and has a very limited selection of basic components. It's tailored to a prescribed set of experiments instead of being a good starter for all experiments. Do you have electronic surplus stores?

    Just add a diode from each signal line to your new indicator with the cathodes toward your new indicator. I didn't include the ground connection for the new indicator but I think you can figure it out. The diodes will reduce the voltage to the new indicator by 0.7V which should be insignificant.

    I doubt that the device is intended to operate from a puny 9V battery. Thermal printing takes a lot of power and the feed motor, display and electronics add to the load. The battery is probably only there to keep the clock accurate and preserve the data in memory during power interruptions...
