    The problem is not too much heat but heat for too long a time. It may be counterintuitive but you need more heat so you can spend less time on the joint. You want to quickly heat the pads/lands and component leads but not soak heat down into the epoxy.

    Replace the electrolytics and see how it goes. Be sure the new capacitors are a quality brand and have a 105°C temperature rating.

    They can cascade fail in short order once the first one does and the others are left to cope with the ripple current. These capacitors are connected in parallel to share the load in a penny pinching circuit design.

    I was in the last electronics class at my high school that used vacuum tubes. We breadboarded a 5 tube AM radio. The school switched to transistor trainers the next year. Tube amps still seem to be popular for guitars.
