    Today's eBay purchase

1 FT232RL USB To Serial Adapter Module + Pro Mini Atmega328 5V 16M for Arduino New (400709601817) $5.97 I wonder if this a genuine FTDI, or a clone that will have problems with the new drivers. I have also just bought some stuff from alice(Tx Hang). Will see how it goes.

Using a Varistor to solve a back EMF problem

Stu, What is the pump model? Have you measured the pump current to confirm that 10A is its maximum? Is the pump wired with suitably sized cable to minimise voltage drop? How many times per day is the pump operated? How long does the pump go each time it is used? Looks like you have been using a...

    italamec FB 333.10 24v 3 amp diode relay - Please help !!

Looks like three 3Amp diodes in an automotive mini relay case. Plugs into a standard mini relay holder. 24v so possibly used in Iveco trucks. What do you want them for? How many do you need? Could you make up a unit with diodes(1N5408) that pugs into the holder?

    power plug identification

Agree with OLIVE2222. Looks like the universal MATE-N-LOK series. AMP connectors often have their part number stamped on them in VERY small digits. Have a good look with a magnifying glass. Element14, RS, Mouser, or Digikey are possible sources for AMP(TE Connectivity).

A new dawn... programmable window blind

I think gradually turning on a light as suggested by Kris would be a better idea than trying to raise a blind. The bulb would have a constant controllable rise in brilliance, but the amount of light entering when slowly raising a blind will depend on how bright it is outside. Arduino have a...

    Tractor Fuel Gauge/Sender Problem

Gregm, As Harald says you are measuring the gauge and sender resistances in parallel. Forget it, you will only confuse yourself doing this, and it won't help in diagnosing the fuel gauge system. Note: The gauge will probably be showing the depth of the fuel in the tank, which may not be the...

Power mosfets for automotive 12v and 24v use.

Thanks for the link. I see that both the mosfets I listed are also available as automotive types, with AU prefix.

Power mosfets for automotive 12v and 24v use.

Would the following mosfets be a good choice to drive relays, hydraulic solenoid valves, and bulbs, etc in 12v and 24v automotive circuits? The mosfets will usually be driven by an Arduino. Current draw usually 1A - 2A, but may be up to about 5A for some circuits. N-Channel IRL3705 P-Channel...

ATX power supply to bench lab supply? help

I have converted an old PSU to use as a lab supply. It is fine for most12v projects, but I need to test automotive ones at normal vehicle starting and charging voltages, ie 10 -14.5v. I also do a lot of 24v trucks etc so need up to 28v. I have ordered one of these to get the voltages I need...

    Help with a potentiometer/rheostat question & project

I am an automotive electrician who deals with electronic diesels every day. Thinking that I could help him, I started reading his post but had to give up part way through. Those posts should be shown to anyone who says that punctuation is not necessary. He was correct saying that the throttle...

using a pc powersupply to feed led strips

As Steve said, some power supplies need a load to work correctly. Suggest that you connect a 10ohm 10watt resistor between red and black(+5v) to load up the power supply. Voltages should then be stable.

    Different type of potentiometer

My guess would be hall effect. Throttle position sensors in the automotive industry have usually been carbon track potentiometers, but with constant use and vibration etc they tended to wear out, or get flat spots. Some of the newer ones are now hall effect and "should never wear out".

    Crystal Balls for sale

I need one for work. Stuff gets dumped on my work bench all the time with no details. Usually just gets thrown on the floor until someone screams.

Dave, you must be on a first name basis with the guys at Trimble by now. You have probably helped pay for their new wood framed, earthquake proof building in Christchurch.

    Electronics calculator

Here is a link to a UK site that has a free program that has very handy calculators for all sorts of electronic circuits, eg series resistors for various LED's, 555 timer resistor and capacitor selection etc. http://www.electronics2000.co.uk/ Cheers, K

    Circuit Schematic Design Software

Another vote for ExpressPCB. I have been using it at work for about ten years. I went to tech and learnt Autocad, but it is too complicated, and EXPENSIVE, for the drawings I do.

Parmak Mod 6 Electric Fence Charger

My guess would be that one of the insulators is shorting out internally and grounding the fence wire. This may be helpful http://www.patriotglobal.com/en/learn-more/handy-hints
