    Welcome to EP! For safe charging the phone will decide for itself how much current to draw, dependent on the existing state of charge of its battery. At some point in the charge process it may draw 2A, but you can't force it to take 2A continuously.

    With a value that high, any surface contamination or high humidity is likely to shunt the resistor and reduce its value considerably, by an unknown amount. I'd consider re-designing the circuit.

    Welcome to EP! I think that unless you had independent isolated supplies for the primary windings they would all be mains referenced, so the high voltage on the secondaries would break down the primary-to-secondary insulation.

    55A @ 24V is less than 2hp. I'm surprised a 7.5hp engine stalls. Could you put a bit of reduction gearing (belt and pulleys) between the engine and alternator?

    The LED will set its own voltage (2V is just a nominal value) depending on the current through it. If you want, say, 5mA, then the series resistor value will be (5V-2V)/5mA = 600Ω. So 560Ω or 680Ω would be convenient close standard values to use, but you might find a higher value more suitable.

    An immersion heater has a large thermal inertia, so the best way to control it is to use burst mode (i.e. several complete mains cycles on, several off). This minimises EMI.

    I can't follow what you're trying to do, but if you just want something that provides an analogue output voltage or current controlled by an electrical or magnetic input then a transistor (bjt or fet), a transformer, an opto-isolator or a Hall-effect sensor could all do that.

    IMO part 20226 is a thermal fuse/cutout. Some are resettable, others (including that one by the looks of it) are not.

    Sounds like the take-up spool drive is slipping. As Crutschow says, that's most likely due to rubber deterioration (if friction wheel drive) or belt stretching. For belt drive you may be able to effect a temporary cure using ordinary rubber bands, but new compatible belts should be available.
