    so procceding to the next step, I want to control its speed not sure how to at the moment but I'm leaning toward a PWM controller!

    I call machine-mart and the man on the phone stated it wont be a 3 phase because it's 12volt, and it'll be an induction motor, I said does it have brushes he said no because its induction motor so it is infact a brushless DC induction motor!!

    so kellys_eye says that there's loads of options but bluejets says that I won't be able to find a quality PWM controller that is capable of those currents, just wondering because they are contradicting comments?

    ok so the machinemart shop is open till 4 O'clock today, I will call them when the phone is free and ask the people the type of motor in the Ninja 3500 Electric Winch - Steel Rope (12V) and should have an update soon with the type of motor inside the winch! feel free to call them first 0115 956 5555

    So this leads to the next question if it does turn out to be brushed type how would I go about making a PWM controller capable of handling those currents? thanks, and IF it's a 3 phase how would I make a speed controller for that!!??

    Any suggestions on a PMW controller that would suit, I would preferably like one that could handle 30% extra than what is needed, cheers

    ok the motor part is a sealed unit, I would take it to pieces but going to call up machine-mart on monday and ask which sort of motor is inside the winch thanks guys!

    so just to make sure would i connect the analog volt meter up to the wires on each coil and make sure that when the, say, north is approching the centre of the coil and the needle on the meter deflects then I just connect all the wires together that make the needle move, say to the right?

    ok before you RTFM on me, I'm on it so nowhere in the manual or extra information does it mention brushless or brushed no mention of brush, is there any other way to determine what type of motor is inside? thanks!
