    It has much finer wire that the bender. It has higher resistance, cannot pass as much current at line voltage levels, and therefore does not get as hot. It actually doesn't hold a constant temperature. I don't think that it would get hot enough for a bender. But, you could try it and see. Ken

    The heat tube was probably designed to run directly of the power line (220VAC). You can't do that with the coiled nichrome, even if it was designed to run off 220V. It needs to be suspended on ceramic spacers. The spacers would cause cool spots along it's length. A PC power supply might provide...

    M1. That transformer is too small. You will need 10 to 20 VAC at about 7A to heat a 3 foot, 20Ga wire to 800°F Q1. No! No! No! Q2. No. You would need to take 220VAC down to ~20VAC. A resistor that would drop that voltage at the current needed to heat the wire would be huge...and expensive..and...

    I suggest you not look for a one-size-fits-all power supply. Get a +/-0to15V-1A and +5V/5A combined supply for the breadboard stuff. Also a 12/24v-30A supply for mobile radios. But, no idea what the 60V is needed for. Ken

    Those have welded and solderable tabs. If your shaver has slodered type of battery connections, yes this is what you need. If your shaver has a drop-in battery holder, then buy the off the shelf AA's. Ken

    It's a gas discharge lamp. It acts like a bipolar zener. Its electrode spacing and envelope gas determine the breakdown voltage at which it conducts. Ken

    Assuming your "vonage" power supply is a wall wart, there is nothing you can do to increase the voltage or the current . You're right about trying to violate the laws of physics. Ken

    How to stop enclosure from dropping power when bumped

    Open the case, start the device, and start wiggling wires and components until the power failure occurs. Fix whatever you were touching. I do this professionally. :) Ken

    This is a good reason to fill in your location in your profile. Then we can suggest resources. Other SCRs would work. Not a lot of options for a Zener. Why 24V? Is that your only option for power source? Ken

    This is the simplest one I've built. Minimum components. Expandable to any number of stations. You don't really need a separate buzzer for each contestant, the lights show who "buzzed in". Ken
