    Testing Salvaged Motors

Thanks M. I'm reading your replies to the thread "motor stronger than power supply voltage" alongside this thread. I'm using my Modular Synthesiser via a mosfet circuit to control motors and have found the PWM function on the SQR wave cv outs to be very useful, especially when starting motors...

Cheers M. I'm a little lost now, but will go and do some research.

    Testing Salvaged Motors

OK, thanks, more complicated than I assumed. I'm only using DC motors, not got round to stepper motors yet. So to make sure i'm supplying enough power I need to take a reading at switch on and under load? I assumed under load would be to stall the motor, but of course this doesn't tell me what...

    Testing Salvaged Motors

Hi. Just want to make sure I'm checking correctly how much current is being drawn from motors I salvage, included is a drawing of how i'm testing (free running). And do i just stall the motor to check it's stall current? seems correct, but best to check. Mostly the motors are from printers i...

    Adding motor into simple circuit

If you aren't too attached to the motor you have already it could be useful to offer up some options you find on the internet that are similar. We can then get an idea of what rpm you require, torque needed (I'm assuming not much, but then we haven't seen your mechanism)... this way we can look...

Also, what is your sound module please?

    Alternative Chassis Socket

Brill, thanks! I'd spent all weekend looking, if only I'd typed "panel mount" :-)

    Alternative Chassis Socket

Hi all I've been using these Camdenboss chassis mount sockets for a while, however the distributor can't say when I can re-order and can't guarantee they'll be stocking them again. I've emailed Camdenboss to no avail...

    A thanks to this forum

"I've always found these art/tech fusion projects interesting. We had an annual art tech festival at one of the colleges I attended." Me also. Initially the project was formed as part of a PHD students research (Manoli Moriarty) at Salford University. His research is around symbiotic...

    A thanks to this forum

Thanks. Tasha put some images and videos up on instagram under our project name Coatic Sequence wasn't sure if electronics point has presence there but we tagged this forum alongside the work so others may find their way here.

    A thanks to this forum

Wasn't sure where this should go. I just wanted to share a few images of what this forum has had a major part in helping me build and say thanks, The images shared are from a public engagement residency me and another artist Tasha Whittle have just completed for ten days. We were put together as...

    LFO LED indicators

Also, apologies as the title of this thread seems irrelevant now. I just didn't foresee having problems with the initial KISS solution. Maybe the title of the thread needs changing?

    LFO LED indicators

Got this module made today, plugged it in and noticed this behaviour happening when the motor is driven. I only had the circuit connected via the SQR out on the LFO and it effected the pitch on the VCLFO going straight into the mixer. Just wondering if anyone can help me understand what is...

    LFO LED indicators

Here's the schematic I've ended up settling on, in case it needs correcting as I intend on making several over the next week or two into dual modules. There may be a more standard way of naming the two pots, which would be better on the synth panel.

    Reducing music in videos

Just an after thought here in that it might be worth looking at the acoustics of the space you are using. I suspect it might be fine with as being at home i'm assuming with lots of soft things to dampen. I Have to avoid locations with bad acoustics, or good as some think. For me the sound...

What to Do With a Lot of Salvaged Speakers?

Gluing springs to the cones to make bodge-it spring reverb with a piezo out is fun and surprisingly effective, especially if you find a way to vary the springs tension.

    LFO LED indicators

Tried this today and worked fine, more detailed than the LED/LDR version. Needed to put a 2k resistor between CV out and base of the MOSFET is all as it seemed to flatten out the 0/- cycle somewhat. I'll make both versions so I can have the option of using motors which need more power without...

    Reducing music in videos

There's a really great book by Oliver Sacks called Musicophilia, looks at a range of Audio type ailments. Audio hallucinations, earworms to audio processing disorders. I for one can't separate sounds very well at all and found the book useful. In terms of films I usually find versions with...
