    New one on me. Never heard of this as a cause nor come across any examples. It may be a manufacturing issue - to hot a solder reflow or issues with lead-free solder perhaps?

    How the heck were we supposed to know that? Because you didn't have the track break at D15 (or 16, 17, 18etc) you've managed to connect AC to the output of the 7812. No wonder it doesn't work! Show us your ACTUAL layout i.e. the soldered board. Why don't you skip the transformer, rectifier...

    Not the X between the two ~ symbols....... There should be a X below the lower ~symbol otherwise you're shorting that ~ point to the negative rail via the LED.

    The OP states that 14V AC is put to the board at the points marked ~. The lower ,~ point needs a break in the track as it connects to the LED (which it shouldn't). There may be other issues.....

    Whatever the difficulties of the situation I don't think GPS location is going to achieve anything other than additional frustration at not being able to implement it properly. @davenn is in agreement her and, like him, I have 40+ years experience and wouldn't be looking to a DIY soluion to this.

    As per @Alec_t in post #3 you need 12Whr of energy. A 1W solar panel could do this in 12 hours or a 3W panel in 4 hours. How long do you want it to take? There are many 'geeky' solutions on the market such as this...

    I don't know what a tracker could do to mitigate the situation anyway. If a 'bad guy' wanted to do a number on your GF a tracker/alarm wouldn't stop them - in fact how long do you reckon it would take 'you' (or plod) to reach her to rescue her? Quicker than a good kicking? knifing? worse...

    Not for me to question your use but personally I'd use the phone once a day to 'check in' otherwise keep it off unless for an emergency. With a spare battery (fully charged) you could go for a week(s?) without recharging. Either way, given the 'bush' location I'd be looking at a bigger/better...

    Solar panel outputs are always, always stated as the 'best possible under the sunniest conditions' and rarely represent what you get in the real world. If you take HALF those stated values you'll be lucky to get them..... The hand cranked output will be more realistic in terms of stated output...

    12V @6W refers to the motor only...... That lamp looks to be a typical 12V halogen and they are rated at 35W to 50W (in my experience) so an additional 3 to 5 A would be essential for the power unit. 12V AC at 5-6A seems appropriate.

    Before the proliferation of 'next day' PCB manufacturers I used to make my own using the toner method. The good old laminator worked just fine - so does the iron but it takes a lot of effort to get right! Nowadays, if I wanted a PCB I'd be using those next-day services as they are far cheaper...
