    Have you checked your power supply voltages? It's seems highly unusual for any other one component to be causing all of these peripheral problems. The HEADS themselves DO wear-out also. Could the heads themselves be the culprit?

    Are you just taking static resistance readings with no power to the board? You do realize that a transformer IS 'shorted' coil windings, 'transforming' the voltage levels where the coils are tapped or as a function of the number of turns? ie; transformers ARE 'short circuits' to an ohmeter.
