    Yes, but there may be 115v circuits on this machine where you would need the neutral connection. Also running at 50hz may cause motors and such to run slower. A mid tap neutral is often called a "split phase" not 2 phase.

    There is often confusion between rated voltage and nominal voltage. 117v is (arguably) the primary rating, but it may be powered with the nominal US voltage of 120v. To me, the more important xformer rating here is the 5va power rating. As far as whats wrong, I'd guess a diode or transistors...

    I'm just saying some components can't be tested while in the circuit board because connected components around it will give misleading results on your test meter. So instead of completely removing a diode, just remove one end to test it.

    I agree. Also, using the lightswitch box in this manner is an electrical code violation. A LED driver that's UL listed for the purpose is the way to go.

    :(Perhaps when you stuffed it in the base the diodes got shorted, giving you the full output of the module? The 3.7-9 is a little higher than anticipated, so you may need to add a 3rd diode. Which should put the output about 1.3v. I'm sad Kris is no longer here to finish his post.

    And this should be done by a qualified and licensed electrician in compliance with local laws. One might be confident "they know what they are doing" but inadvertantly end up burning down the entire apt building at the expense of the lives of the other occupants.

    Fuses respond faster than the breaker. Make sure you are not using fast acting fuses. Some fuses have a "T" for time delay.
