    The magnets will make it implode as you pull it apart making it difficult to get back together. The cooling fan on the back may have a c clip that has to be removed, and many require a gear puller to remove them. If its plastic its a lot easier.     :)Thanks Martin, I didn't catch that the panels are interchangeable. This should allow me to inspect the board to see if there is a regulator chip, or just limiting resistors. I guess I'll know in about a week.

    If it is regulated; I suppose when the supply voltage goes up, the current might also go up while the regulator circuit shunts the overcurrent on the load side of the circuit. In essence making the circuit look resistive from the line side?

    Yes, I think your right. The leds would be burning out prematurely if there was no regulation. I'm probably overthinking this one. I will go with a constant 12v driver.

    Your probably right. If it didn't have some regulation, I'd think a crude supply like a doorbell xformer would be unstable to a dangerous level.

    If it sounds like it has gravel inside it; it's probably a universal motor.

    I agree with Minder. Universal motors are more often used in Circular saws, than table saws. Where are all you European guys to way in on this? Nafnlaus: Why the heck do you want to run it backwards?

    And measure it, with the camera hooked to the vehicle. It's possible to have a loose connection that shows a 12v reading on a meter, but will die off (open) once a load is applied.

    Changing rotation is accomplished by swapping the leads of the start winding. This is the motor winding with the smaller size wires on the stator that hooks to the start capacitor. I don't see the leads are in the motor box. You may have to crack the case to get access to them. (Not easy)...

    Your probably right, But not a bad idea imo. Your fuse will protect the motor, but their could be another failure like a transformer. At 400ma I don't see much concern.

    I'd be concerned about the ambient temperature inside the housing. You might want to use a thermal fuse at the motor end as well as your 400ma fuse at the source end.

    Headphone cable broke

    Hard to tell from that pic, but it maybe a ferrite choke for noise reduction. You may be able to seperate it with a sharp knife and then rewrap the cable. If it was me I'd just cut it off and solder directly to the cable, and mitigate a trip to the emergency room.

    Minder, I agree with the importance of a chassis ground (IEC symbol) etc.. in electronic circuits, but the scope of this thread was talking about building wiring where the different ground symbols are not relevant. Again, they just spec the electrical prints different. Regards, John

    Good luck Christos. Be advised that fusing or overload sizing may need to be changed because your power changed slightly.

    Not trying to nit pick here, but rather clarify the terms. A neutral is not always a grounded conductor. Also, a grounded conductor may not be a neutral. An example where it's not a neutral, is single phase (2 wire)120v circuits. The Nec has clarified this since the 2008 code cycle. NFPA79...

    People often throw out the term "neutral" with single phase (2 wire) incorrectly. A neutral is the conductor the carries the unbalanced current between phase conductors. Single phase (2 wire) has a grounded conductor. White in US, or blue in EU. It is not a true neutral.
