    Just my 2 cents worth: The OP wants to convert VHS tapes to DVD. Not use it to watch films. I convert VHS, BETA and CINE for many people. It obviously helps to have working units. Martin

    Any 12v supply with the correct polarity will work. 2A, 3A, 10A. You won’t damage anything by using a higher amperage PSU. The advice you were given on AAC is all good. Martin

    Of course, the 555 output pin 3 connects to the 4017 input pin 14. The 4017 is a little strange, it’s outputs are not in sequence. Instead of 1,2,3 etc, it’s 3,2,4,7 etc so look at the data sheet. Martin

    The head is probably due for a clean. Clean it first with IPA and a cotton bud then see how it plays. Also, might be useful to take a picture of the screen as different faults cause various picture problems. Martin

    Yes, that would work, but the motor you have may run from DC. Try it, it will either hum and not move or work perfectly. Martin

    As suggested, a loose connection. Have you disconnected and reconnected all terminals and connectors?. Including handlebar display?. Was the treadmill lifted downstairs or bumped downstairs?.     You can use a CD4017 and use diode steering. It has 10 outputs, you would use 6 of these. Example: 2 LEDs per output. Out1 to both LEDs via a 1N4148. Out2 to same LEDs via diode. Out3 to same etc. That’s your first three flashes. Next is your other two LEDs: Out4 to other LEDs via 1N4148. Out5...

    It sounds like the caps aren’t doing their job. Given the stresses these caps go through in SMPS, they are also the first components to fail. I would replace them as a matter of course. Martin
