    Problem is, most USA ac circuits don't have a neutral ran to it. you can't derive 120v from a 3 wire branch circuit without using the equipment ground as the return. This is a code violation and not safe. It'd be smarter to use a 240/120v stepdown transformer on the compressor contactor, or...

    Key fob? Hard to say. Perhaps when shorting the pins it unlatches (brings voltage to 0) a function that runs the battery down? Perhaps the buttons are still not working properly? (Releasing) If the buttons are working, I'd pitch it. Not really something worth servicing.

    Wow, they have really come down in price. Last time I used one, they were 3 times as much. Great and practical info, but the TDR answer to the OP, is like suggesting a calculator to someone asking how to do long division.

    You can use chapter 9 table 8 (attached electrical code) to calculate the approximate distance of the wire by measuring in ohms. Eg, 14awg solid copper is 3.07ohms at 1000ft Or .00307 per foot.

    It's fair to say; if someone is reading about a continuity tester, a TDR is not one of their go-to tools. Besides, if they were using one, they would probably not be interested in continuity. (They'd be using it on fiber).

    Same with receptacles, they are rated for plugging/unplugging hot. The plug/receptacle should not be that hard to unplug. If so id be looking at the receptacle, not putting lube on it
