    Your probably right, although water could cause a failure without that kind of damage. Right? I'm picturing rogue currents that might take out an IC or something, without drawing too much current.

    Sure looks like corrosion to me. I'm guessing exposure to water caused this board to fail. Of course I've been wrong before.

    The reason I think its a shadow (from camera) is because the darker area is almost in a perfect line across. Discoloration is usually not so uniform. There are corroded tracers (lines) at the top of picture. You can try and clean it up with a pencil eraser and see if the copper is still intact...

    With the cost of brass, It's doubtful you'll find a power strip constructed with it. If the UL listing was changed to say "relocatable power tap" I wouldn't have much confidence in its surge protection. It's certainly good to have some suppression, but If you have a nearby lighting strike...

    Looks to me, there's a short in your mother board. Try and follow the tracers back to the charging section of mb. Perhaps there is a shorted component? Worth a look before shelling out money out for a new mb.

    Sound like you might need to add some Resistance (about 2 ohms) to fool the canbus into thinking its a 55w load instead of 35w? Not very efficient I admit, but would probably work. I'd contact the manufacture first. It can't be the first time they have come across this.

    Ok, so the shutter is switched by the relay. I get that. The bottom of the drawing has "high beam" (signal coming from the car wiring). Then, the diode allows current to also flow to the dipped lamp. But the signal still has to originate from the bottom (car high beam switch).

    :p Hey jerk, I don't understand how your diode enables high beam flashing. If anything, it would flash your dipped beam while you flash the high beams.
