    Those 'coils' don't burn-up by themselves. Something else in your circuit caused this damage. Don't just replace the coil, or transformer, or whatever it is, without checking the rest of the circuit.

    If you ever plan to change LEDs, I'd use the clear silicon. It's pretty tough and is pretty easy to remove. john monks idea will work fine also. (but if you ever have to remove it, you might end-up chipping-away at your stone)

    Did you try to find the manufacturer's data sheet for it? Typically, the manufacturer has a test circuit for the device at the end of the data sheet.

    It always pays to check the simplest stuff first. It was pretty hard for me to believe that it worked fine, you put it in your jeep for a little ride, and all of the sudden it stopped working. Hope you're good to go now.

    I've got a 2235 I bought for $1800 in 1981. Sure, it's needed some work over the years, but it's a very good scope. It's worth some effort to get it going. Patience pays off.
