    The voltage is 115 V a.c rms. This is the same as 115 V d.c for power loss in a resistor so you divide this by the total resistance 115/(0.47+13) to get the current. Then P = I^2*R = 8.85^2*0.47 = 34.25 W Adam

    I calculate the power dissipated by the resistor to be approx. 34 W so no wonder your resistor got hot. You will need a 50 W resistor mounted to a large heat sink to have a chance of using this approach. Thanks Adam

    Yes correct. And you will also have to overcome the voltage that is increasing also. When your output voltage equals the capacitor voltage no more energy can be stored. And then you use the formula above to work out your energy. Adam

    Hello If 5 mW is 5 mJ / second which is a rate of change of energy from one form to another. Then 5 mW *2 is just 5 mW *2 and not 10 mW. For it to be 10 mW this would need to be 10 mJ / Second. What I think you are referring to is the amount of energy stored in the electric field of a capacitor...

    In theory yes. But you have to make sure you use the correct op-amp that can operate down at low voltage levels on the inputs (Rail to Rail). Also depending on the transistor your using the op-amp needs to be able to supply enough base current also. I also doubt the circuit will be fast enough...

    Hello The input to your opamp is fixed at 9 Volts. This will give you the maximum current all the time. What are you hoping to do with the POT? Also why the two transistors, do you have two Laser diodes? Adam
