How to find parameters of Butterworth low pass filter?.

Hello All of these questions are design specific. Only the designer can determine that, you have to find out what you need then maybe we can help design a filter. Also does the filter need to be active or passive, this makes quite a difference. Adam

SFH6186 - can someone explain me

Well the fact its an optocoupler/ isolator, then I guess you are corect. To know what its doing in a circuit we would need a circuit diagram or more info on the circuit. Adam

Need help powering a 12V vehicle video monitor from 5V

The TV only draws 250 mA so I dont understand why it shouldnt work. The booster can supply 1.4 Amps. Whats not clear is at what voltage can it supply 1.4 Amps. Let me have another look. Adam

    learning about multimeters

Hello The points or probes are quite normal for multi meters. You have to be careful swapping leads, the ones that come with the meter are usually calibrated for the meter. If the meter has a zero function then you may be ok to use other leads. Although for general use using another set of leads...

Need help powering a 12V vehicle video monitor from 5V

Hello How much power does the monitor use and what is the rating of the booster. A link to both would be useful. Adam

Not getting correct voltage from voltage regulator

Define stable operation? I have never heard of an input capacitor that stops internal oscilations. Thats like saying the bigger the battery the less risk of oscillation due to lower resistance, not sure about that. I will look into this later. And yes I too use capacitors on my regulators, but...

Not getting correct voltage from voltage regulator

Thats fine Dave. They are stable without capacitors. Does the data sheet say they are for stability? I would be suprised if it did. But have not used one for a long time. I am doing DIY at the moment. Let me check out a data sheet when I get 5. But just think, whats the voltage gain of an...

APC SU2200NET UPS Battery Backup repair

They look like 1/4 watt carbon film resistors. If you want to replace them then some metal film resistors are 0.5 watt for the same size. If the unit is working how it should then just leave it alone, it may go on for years. Dont fix what aint broke. You dont want to become what we call a Sunday...

    PCB gerber changes

Hi Philip. sorry not me, used to use it 20 years ago but not anymore. They use it a lot at schools and universities because it is cheap. Do you know any students? They might have a copy. Check ebay someone might be selling a cheaper copy. I guess you didnt have much luck with gerber software...

Not getting correct voltage from voltage regulator

Common 78 series regulators that use an NPN output stage are stable without any capacitors. LDO types using an PNP output stage will require some capacitance. But not ceramics because the ESR is too low and won't introduce the phase lead needed for stability. A small value tant or electrolytic...

Field Charging Box - voltage/component question

You may find it cheaper to use a relay and a much smaller switch for switching the coil. Automotive relay for 40 Amps will cost 80 pence ($1.22). Adam

    diesel engine controller water damage

No worries, when you have time. But from experience most things can be dried out but the minerals in water dry and can corode electronics components. Lets wait until we have some pictures. Might be worth getting a can of electronic component cleaner also, just incase. Not sure what type you have...
