    I had to Google that, thank you. For anybody else interested here. @Audioguru can you please explain how that works?. The darlington is the same pair and this is a complimentary pair. Q1 collector is connected to Q2 base, that confused my little brain. Martin

    There are tonnes out there here. Some have the same foot print while others have a metal tab that pushes the switch. That tab can be removed. You can try and open your switch and clean it. Martin

    For the same circuit topology, clipping percentage, etc., I prefer the germanium sound over silicon. Made both for a cousin for an A-B test - clear tonal difference. For helping a forum question ?. You have to remember we all started somewhere.

    If it works sometimes and is 25 years old, it isn’t a short. Try replacing the electrlytic capacitoors. They dry out over time and will exhibit this behaviuor. Martin

    You could try a 2N2222 NPN. It should give a few more mA. Failing that, an N channel mosfet or a relay. Show us the circuit and somebody will be able to give you a more precise answer. Depending on the LED wiring configuration, you may be able to run more on your existing circuit. Martin
