Ok so the first thing to do is sort out the heating issue. The second issue is what Colin just mentioned, this won't work very well. Where did you get the coil design from?

I make the inductance approx. 10.8 uH for an air core. (r^2 * N^2) / (9*r) + (10*l). r = radius of coil, N = Turns, l = length. What core material are you using?

Is this 2-6 Amps what you are expecting as far as current goes. What is the primary resistance and inductance, do you know? Or can you give me the number of turns and dimension of the former it's wound on.

Hello. Colin gave you a clue in his post. It looks like you are drawing too much current from your regulator or the regulator can't supply enough current. See if you can work out what needs to be change. You mentioned it in your last post.

But your driving a MOSFET so should be fine, you might need a small resistor on the gate which depends on the gate capacitance. You need to redraw your circuit and include any changes that Colin mentioned about your regulator.

Can you show us how you have it connected and are they defiantly 100 Ohm resistors. 1.5 Amps would mean the resistor combination was equalled 1 Ohm. What do you mean it's supposed to be 0.9 Amps?

Hi dorke. If possible we need some good pictures of both sides of the circuit board and if you have a circuit diagram you could post that would be great.

Centre tap between LDR and 100K, what you have another resistor now that's connected to Vcc? The pot should connect to the 10K LDR and base of the transistor.

Looks good Hop, I admire your determination. If I had to start from scratch like you (not that I know that much) I would have given up I think and gone back to learning quantum electro dynamics, which I find easier. :)
