    Newbie Soldering Station

Hakko's are very good soldering stations. Buy one from a reputable store. The extra £10 could be a real money saver!! Contact these here, they are UK based and say "only genuine"..I have never heard of them though.. Or look online for Mouser, RS, Digikey to name a few. Martin

Probably nothing to do with anything.. But the soldering on the yellow wire (far right) looks awful..Is there continuity there. Martin

    Reading Wireshark packet

Perhaps you can read for yourself..They have a good site.. This kind of software requires others that all interface together. Dumpcap being just one. But as these tools are primarily used for hacking, this is the wrong forum to ask.. Martin

    Your food (Mature/Adult viewing)

I just eat!! In South America We had to catch it first.. A pig.. Making real sausages was an eye opener, but that's life. Look at real wild life videos.. Eaten alive. As much as it is 'horrible' to see, it is unfortunately the way life goes.. We (humans) always think there is a better way or...

    Wires and Power Supplies

You don't need to tin the wires. If you say each pair is negative and positive.. Do you mean 'both' wires in a single insulation? Or two pairs where each has a positive and negative? Either way, make sure they are not touching each other when screwed to the power supply. May be some more...

Can someone ID this part in a Casio FH-20 Camera?

Hey Larry, If your other opinions were the same as mine, we must all be right:p Do as Dave asked and check for a burnt coil. If not leave it alone and check else where. Martin

    Help me identify this

Karim, Gryd3 already gave a good idea of the components. I can see resistors, ceramic caps, potentiometers, IC's and an Arduino.. If you can find a proper close screen shot, someone here can tell you exactly. Just not the pot values.. Martin

Motorhome Radioswitch from Main Battery to Leisure Battery

No, that wont work.. You cannot power devices through an LED.. You may want to look at 12v illuminated switches for this project. Something like these. Martin

Can someone ID this part in a Casio FH-20 Camera?

Hi larrybudd, Looks like 4.7μh inductor. I doubt it has anything to do with memory retention though.. http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/DR73-4R7-R/513-1133-1-ND/754631 Martin

    Help with resistors

Hi starscream, My question would be why two batteries in series if you only need 9 volts? Just wire them in parallel and you'll have 9 volts.. Plus twice the run time. Then just use an automotive illuminated rocker switch.. Job done.. Unless there are reasons you can't do this? Martin

    Amplifier blows power fuse

That looks a lot neater from a top view. Looks more like a deliberate application of glue for the larger caps and ferrite chokes, rather than leakage. As Harald suggested against vibration etc. Martin

Strange chemical reaction from PVC grommets

John, you are a chief electrician.. (did I get that right)? Oops, master electrician..:D I think Trevor means that cables on older houses with older broken/sheaths have a tendancy to bleed through after a re-paint. Water based paints obviously bring out the rust in older steel cables and can be...

    LED Powered Miniature Light Show

Hi No6h, Your imagination and the effects you want are key! Personally, I would start with a cheap $2 chinese toy with flashing lights. Cannibalize it and run it from a 5v phone charger (assuming it runs on 3 or 4x1.5v). Batteries wont last 2 minutes in those toys! Example: These can be bought...
