    Strange PSU Problem

Hi Danno, If you think it could be the MC1723 as it does control the voltage and current, have you tested the voltage before the regulator and plugged the board in? Martin

    Small LCD Display

Not at all. But it sounds like a micro controller would be easiest as boards are readily available with SD,SD micro, TFT etc card slots. There are some forum members with lots of experience with micro controller coding. What did you have in mind? Martin

    Strange PSU Problem

Judging by the OP's comment about having 5v until the unit is under load (connected to the board), you could assume a short is unlikely. More than likely the caps (or one) are failing. As soon as it's connected to the main board the voltage drops and the under voltage circuit inhibits start up...

    Basic appliance question

In some comedy films the person plugs in a wrong voltage item. The hotel goes into black out. I don't know how to explain that further. Martin

    Basic appliance question

Minder, that was a joke switching off every body elses TVs. I thought that was kind of obvious!! A typical consumer wont know about the consumer board either!. And boil time would be much longer on 110v. I was simply assuming he had a 240v coffee machine and running it on a normal US socket of...

    newbie question

That would make no difference what so ever. If the LDR is still in circuit, it wont switch on until dusk. Replicating the original circuit, without the battery. You might want to clip the solar panel wire too. Other than that, it will work the same way for British summers ... Martin

    Basic appliance question

The night you plugged in your coffee machine was probably quite amusing.. All the other residents couldn't watch TV or turn their lights on. They thought they had a black-out! Your other items are fed by a transformer that can operate on different voltages. Unfortunately for you, the coffee...

    newbie question

Hi Andy, If you are going to leave them connected day and night, why not just disconnect the batteries and power them as you described. They are probably LEDs and a100ma adapter would more than likely be fine for all 5. Martin

    Connection query

Ah ok. The one that the plastic centre top pin has snapped is not broken. These lights are not earthed. You could glue that back on. It is only needed to open the socket slot for the other two pins. Obviously you will need to find an adapter for the other set. Try a charity shop! Any 24v ac...

Yes, that's the controller and also converts it to DC. It must be that time of year again! How do you know the adapter is faulty and not the controller? Martin

Yes, still the same procedure. I don't know why they are AC though. Is there a controller too? Martin

    Voltage and light bulb

I think he is asking whether the voltage or amps alters the brightness of the bulb. If I am correct, it will be the voltage. It's the voltage and Current that give the power (Watts). Martin

    Connection query

Hi smoo, Yes, you can cut off the Din connector and put in it's place any type of connector. I also assume your AC adapter is AC/DC 6 volts? Almost any adapter of 6v will work. Martin
