    As your in the UK I would use easy radio. I have used these before and they work well. You will need to supply battery power obviously to the door sensor circuit. But this could be just a small micro which controls the UART comms and then goes to sleep to conserve battery power...

    The MOSFETs getting hot is probably due to them not being turned on fast enough as already mentioned by Steve. Do you still have the large value gate resistors? Try reducing them by a factor of 10. To turn on the MOSFET fully in 1us will require approx. 72mA. If it needs to be quicker then this...

    Your circuit is a bit jumbled up to be honest. What do you think the 500R resistor is doing? You would also normally rectify any AC signal first before regulating it with a zener. Adam
