Panasonic Home Cinema... No Power UP

Hi Jonny Can you take some pictures of the PCB in question, maybe we will spot something that looks suspect. Nice clear close up pictures are best. Adam

    Replacing Cooling Fans

I would have thought the original design would have some over head to drive a bit more current, but unless you know the circuit you can't assume anything. As long as the working voltage of the fan is the same then running a lower power fan will be ok. Match the voltage and current if possible...

    Graphical LCDs: alternatives and drivers

Yeah monochrome TFT could be the way to go. Wide viewing angle and reads in sunlight. Varitronix are the people we have used in the passed, also Pacer. Check them out. http://www.pacer.co.uk/?gclid=COf085n09cECFQjHtAodIFoARw...

    analog signal routing

I prefer the second version and it's the right way to do it. I know it's difficult but I always prefer not to route tracks under components but it's difficult for densely populated PCBs. The only time it's recommended to run two tracks on top of each other but on opposite sides of the PCB is...

    Graphical LCDs: alternatives and drivers

HI Kris Sounds an interesting project. Trans-reflective LCDs use daylight as the backlight so you can see the graphics. The backlight then is used when the light level is insufficient. You could for energy reasons have a light sensor which activates the backlight in certain light levels. This...

In need of some assistance - faulty desk lamp

Hi Ben Are there any components on the other side of the PCBs? What type of battery do you use, are they rechargeable types? Have you tried it with and without the batteries? Adam

DO-160 Section 22, Lightning Induced Transient Susceptibility Test Project

I spent two weeks once testing wall warts to see how they survived an indirect induced lightning strike. It was great fun seeing power supplies go pop, you'll be surprised just how weak some of them are. I then had to build a lightning suppressor for some of our equipment. At the end of the...

In need of some assistance - faulty desk lamp

Hello Ben Can you take some pictures of the unit so we can have a look? Take nice clear close up pictures. Adam

"notsohot" project - mains power cycler for heating appliances

Looks an interesting circuit Kris. What's the reasoning behind the type of quadrant switching you have used for the Triac? Is it so there is no mains output until you have a load connected and this will also commutate the opto Triac driver. I have never seen it done this way before so just...

    Energy harvesting from solar panel

Any regulator does not change the load. Unless it has little hands that can change the load for you. I think you mean change the current or voltage. A buck regulator will reduce the input voltage to a preset level. The PWM controls this voltage by changing its on and off times. Adam

    AC power limiting circuit

If the LED light runs from DC which I think most do. Then the 50Hz signal produced by a standard lamp could also be detected and switch off If a standard bulb is fitted. Adam

    AC power limiting circuit

The benefit of a light sensor is it could also be used to stop people leaving the light on in the day when the light in the room is bright enough. saving even more power. Adam
