How do I build a Metal Detector?

I agree Kris. You got me thinking, what about the common circuits we all use every day that we didn't design ourselves that appear time and time again. Someone designed it in the first place but we never mention it but would take credit for it. We all do that. Adam

    Split Rail Power Supply

    Yes I thought that also.

    Simple Function Generator

Looks like it should work to me. I think you might have a wiring issue. Post your measurements so we can see them. One thing I just noticed looking at the data sheet for the OP amp is it does not like having an input anything greater than the supply minus 3V. This could cause you problems. Adam

Best way to drop power supply output voltage by 1-2V

I think unless you use a switching regulator your going to be stuck with getting rid of a lot of energy as heat. I think I would go for a diode on a heat sink it's a simple approach. Some of the other guys might have something better up their sleeves. Adam

    Indicator LED placement

Try this it might work. Oh your top LED and resistor is shorted. Thanks Adam

    Good idea Steve Adam

A new type of BLDC motor drive?

Why don't you bloody try it instead of keep asking if this will work. It is called engineering. Oh and stop posting stupid questions when we could be helping others that really appriciate our help.

How do I build a Metal Detector?

What about a magnet, very good at sensing metal.......Only joking. I am with harald don't know of one with an analog out. But a few years ago I helped design one which worked like this. Take a tuned circuit and ping it with a pulse the after a time measure the voltage. Then measure again and if...

BASIC LED project - help/advice required

I wouldn't say significant power 5mW extra versus just resistor. Resistor dissipates 165mW. But if you mean in general driving them directly wastes power then yeah I agree there are more efficient ways of doing this, but I kept it simple for the beginner. Just looking at your first circuit and...

    Split Rail Power Supply

Looks good Kris. A modified output of an audio amplifier with bias servo? Good idea. Adam

BASIC LED project - help/advice required

Yeah I did that in the early days. Now your going to laugh at this, My first dark operated switch power a standard mains lamp via a relay. The lamp and circuit were close by. Guess what happened? Yep light switched on and off a 50Hz, took me ages to work out what was wrong. Well that was 20...

    Poles and Zero's

Oh dear Laplace. That's disappointing, Poles and zeros are extensively mentioned in filter design, even up to date text still refer to them and as a visual aid in filter performance. A VNA has a pole zero plot output even the new ones. But thanks for looking at this anyway. I'll carry on and...

    Help in explain schematic

J2 looks like it is your output connector from the regulator to your battery. It is not a jumper. And oh J1 probably the input. It needs the current sense on both to maximise the PV curve. Adam

    Oscilloscope Question

Difficult to check all the functions unless you can borrow it for a while. But you could hook the scope probe up to the calibration output of the scope and check the time base voltage and trigger parts on each channel and the brightness control if it has one. Adam

    Split Rail Power Supply

I don't quite follow what you mean. Are you saying if you put in 3V you want +/- 3V out and if you put in 12 volts you want +/- 12V out and again at 32V and what with no loss at 1Amp? Adam

Strange voltage from 74ls02 nor gate

We will need to see your whole circuit and tell us what ABC are set to on the input versus the number your getting. Also U71 is a single output so not sure how this is going to send the right signals to the display. What is the other PCB in your photo doing? Adam
