Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Hullo? Getting 0V over R151 (R151 is a metal film 68Ω 1/4W resistor) What's interesting is that it's countersunk in a cutout on the board. Any idea why? Solder on one leg of resistor dull grey. Gonna resolder Nope, still 0V

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Good Morning Dave barring a serious parallax error between the top and the underside of the board I'm also getting 17.1V between neg leg of C158 and between either of the legs on IC105

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Dave I replaced diodes: D153 D143 D152 D149 D150 Checked them all once off board and they all checked good. Then remeasured voltage across C158 =17.1V Which I assume is correct voltage Now thinking that I might have forgotten to push the on switch when I powered up. Duh!

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

I will probably have to pull all those diodes to properly check them and then I might as well replace them as they're out. Interesting, using X1 reading on AMM diodes check good. deflection one way. Using x10K scale diodes all fail. deflection both ways. Back planes could come into play here?

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Yes, I've got 1N4007's Surprising as I've still only built up a meagre supply of spares

the plot thickens. DC across C158= 0.17V Still want to measure IC 105. Is that also across it's 2 legs?

Ah OK. So DC across the cap

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Just to be sure. Where do I connect the neg lead of the DMM to read DC on C158 ? To neutral leg of mains power?

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Yeah, so relieved we sorted that out. Was considering giving up electronics there for a moment. But can we work on page 20. It's a more realistic layout of whats going on and I can understand it. OK Getting 11VAC on secondary legs of sub trans

Relief. Thank Goodness. No, I am working on page 20 of the manual which I can understand much better

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Thanks dave. Now I'm horribly confused and worried. When I look at the tracks on the diagram the 2 left tracks on the sub trans lead to CP101 AC CORD which is the plug where the mains power plugs into the board.

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Yeah, this is a logistic nightmare. I currently have it still mostly connected with the one side of the main board lifted up so I can get to the foil side. If I do remove the whole thing it's going to be a big floppy setup where the chance of damaging the legs to the 10 big resistors is huge...

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Dave, just fyi, CP 931 is a connection plug with 2 wires coming out of it leading to a little circuit board right behind the on switch on the front panel.

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Wow guys Thanks! Lots of stuff to work through. Dave: Does a diode come into play? I am connecting the 12V straight to the coil legs of the relay, and I checked data sheet of relay, the coil is not polarity sensitive.

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Well, I tried it with the 5W globe. Globe goes out and relay doesn't fire

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Now for that area that I'm still very shaky on Limiting current to 300mA P=VI P= 12 x 0.3A = 3.6W (I need an additional 3.6W in the circuit) So the small automotive bulb I have is 5W I=P/V I= 5W/12= 0.42A Huh? Current should have dropped Me feeling very stupid

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

Thanks Dave It's this jobbie: http://www.satronics.co.za/power-supplies-transformers-chargers/ac/dc-adaptors/universal-1amp-multi-voltage-adaptor.html Can't set current with it Will I blow the relay if I use it?

Denon AVR 1804 amp won't switch on

As far as the relay goes. Are we talking about relay RLY106 (bottom left on page 20 of the manual) It's one leg is connected to the live of CP101 (AC CORD) which is where power enters the board. So it's poised to fire whenever power is connected to the AVR. Now here's a real redneck plan: It's...
