    help in a project

Actually no. Not because I don't love them but because it's doubtful that his instructor will let him use one. I asked because I liked Bob's suggestion but I need to know the answers to my questions to see how I can implement it, or even if it can be implemented. Personally, I was surprised that...

    help in a project

Has your instructor locked you into a 555 or are you free to choose your components, less a battery source? I also have a few more questions, What is supposed to happen if 4 minutes expire but power has not been restored? What is supposed to happen if power flickers on - off during the 4...

    Phototransistor latch circuit?

Oops, I missed this >>> I have to regroup now because my feeble brain was working under the ass_umption that the light source was being keyed by remote button presses. Yes, nothing you said intimated that at all! Chris

    Not Working on Proteus ISIS

ISIS has quite a few motor models. What's the model you're using and what's the value of V+? Chris

Controlling stepper motor with a computer

I use Tina but only the Tina-TI version is free. Tina-TI can be downloaded from Texas Instruments. Most of the guys here use free LT-Spice. It's pretty good but the component models are too large for my tastes. Chris

Controlling stepper motor with a computer

If you want to do this with the absolute lowest expense and brain strain I highly recommend checking out the Picaxe that I mentioned earlier. Here's a link to a bunch of Stepper Motor topics on their forum. I found them by using the forum search box "Stepper Motor". Did you download the FREE...

When I ran it I get the following using an ideal OpAmp.. -3dB=10KHz -6dB=16KHz -20dB=48KHz Chris

Controlling stepper motor with a computer

If the serial port is being used only to provide logic states then there will be only 3 available output pins. I can also generate a pulse train on any one or all 3 pins. Anything more than that requires serial data communication with the external device. The Parallel Port provides 8 output...

    diode for collapsing magnetic field

BS, you deserve a reward for perseverance. Chief Dan George: "Endeavor to persevere". ..The Outlaw Josey Wales I think Josey would have shot that thing by now! Chris

Controlling stepper motor with a computer

I'm not a stepper motor expert but that has never stopped me in the past. I have a lot of that! :D I like serial port projects, as I'm experienced with it. Tell me what your four wires need to see and when they need to see it. In the interim this is a nice article with great animation...

Controlling stepper motor with a computer

If you're going to mess with micros I recommend this for nubes and novices. The initial cost is very low. They also have their own forum with topics including serial port interface and code. We also have a code section right here on EP. ;) http://www.picaxe.com/ Whatever you do never...

Controlling stepper motor with a computer

I would imagine that since the advent of uC's there are many free serial port apps available for download. If not the old Quick Basic will do the job. Keep in mind that XP and above does not run with DOS as its root. The DOS that's included with XP runs as a console window. It can be best...

    Optoelectronics

Isn't that the truth! There are two current topics that I thought I had a better design for. I've been editing my Sims on both of them for two days now with no light at the end of the tunnel. I'd like to accuse micros of spoiling my brain, where circuits rarely get modified and changes are...

    help in a project

Rereading this it occurred to me that we don't know what your power source is and we don't know what your load is. Saying "when power is cut from the circuit" could mean many things. Are we talking Mains power? Chris

    help in a project

It makes one ponder and muse. Has there ever been college credits for the most creative Rube Goldberg? :p Seriously though, 4 minutes is a long period for a 555 and that's without any power source concerns. In fact it's not easy to do with any RC based timing scheme. Any noise that...

Help with high current battery switching without putting the load through the switch

You may want to Google Cole Hersey (sp?) switches. They've been making heavy duty marine switches for decades. They are large rotary switches designed to switch large Lead Acid storage batteries. They ain't cheap either though. Chris

    Phototransistor latch circuit?

BL could you please explain the end function of your project? I ask because I have an idea to eliminate the 4017 but I need to know what the end product is going to be. Reading back over your Schmitt Trigger topic didn't clarify anything for me. Chris

    Capacitor Value issues (simple)

I'm through guessing because what I thought was an educated guess is looking more and more like just a plain old guess. We don't usually do that here. ;) . Chris

Actually, I think you're correct. I misplaced the decimal point! My first clue should have been that the OP thinks it's a Silver Mica.... Duh! Chris
