    Fun with solenoids

Solenoids aren't that efficient. You might be better advised to look into servo motors. Chris

    Power Supply?

The LM7808 Voltage Regulator should be able to handle that load. http://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/pdf/85505/ETC/LM7808.html Chris

I've wondered about your handle. It fits! Chris

    Capacitor Value issues (simple)

This is going to make us all feel better because capacitance in only one direction didn't make sense, Chris

    Simple Variable DC Power Supply

Are you serious? Don't you think it's a tad  overkill for his application? Besides, jjdans is having issues following Steve's schematic. How the hell is he going to follow that? Maybe a better question would be why would he want to? Chris

    Simple Variable DC Power Supply

Well, I redrew Steve's schematic in my Tina software. My object was to click my 3D view option to convert it to a pictorial diagram. Unfortunately Tina didn't supply 3D images for the Pots, the LM317, pwr jack and phono jack. This means I have to draw them but I want to get on Trigger and ride...

    Woo-Woo Power saving speculation

Since it doesn't appear that you're going to relocate on your own volition perhaps the forum Gods will see fit to move this entire thread to the Members Lounge. It's the only place on EP that befits its content. Hell, I'm not sure it fits there either! ...Maybe if we had a section named...

    Simple Variable DC Power Supply

Usually I'll draw and post the circuit for you but I told you before that all the information you need will be found in the LM317 Data Sheet. Just Google "LM317 Data Sheet". The data sheet will include application notes with included schematics. The heat sink data will be included too. In fact...

    Simple Variable DC Power Supply

Just remember what Gonzo told you. The minimum input V must be n(V) higher than your maximum output V. The exact spec should be listed in the data sheet. Chris

    Woo-Woo Power saving speculation

Unfortunately I don't think he understands "subtle". Here's another subtle suggestion that might be helpful. Utilizing this single thing can cure many anomalies. Chris

    Simple Variable DC Power Supply

It's always a good idea to be as precise as you can here. 6,5V is a long way from 12V. Chris

    Simple Variable DC Power Supply

The data sheet for the LM317 indicates a 5K pot for typical applications. If you've soldered the leads of your 10K pot, in which case they won't accept a return, you can shunt it with a 5.1K. I hope your pot is linear. An audio taper will work but it will be a cramped scale at one end. Chris

Was it Radio Shack? They always give stellar advice. BTW, welcome to EP! Chris

    Simple Variable DC Power Supply

Gonzo gave you good advice but who exactly was it that told you a 10K pot was your ticket? Was it a salesman at the electronics supply? Who was the supplier? Chris

    How to address a moderator

I have another theory. When we read stuff like that it makes us think .. "WTF! What the hell is the problem with this guy"? It also reinforces that inner voice that says .. "Gee, this world is f*cked up! Am glad I'm so normal". :D Of course it may be another theory I have. The feminist...

    PCB tips...

Kris uses LT Spice. His stuff always looks great but he does know what he's doing. ;) I use Tina Classic but Tina has a free version called Tina TI which can be downloaded from Texas Instruments. Regarding generating a sawtooth with a uC... I would think that the only uC pin/function that...
