    Use the solenoid designed for the job. Starter motors if the direct drive can draw up to 400 amps at start depending on the load.

    From what I've read these are an overcomplicated pos. with manuals that are almost impossible to find. Just wondering if perhaps there is an on-board memory battery that has gone bad?

    In my experience I have found one cannot even buy the parts for the price of the finished, tested, guaranteed , delivered item. Much less the headaches that go with the build when things don't work the way they are supposed to.

    I saw a video on one of these and it showed schematics on the last page of the included manual. Too blurry to see anything though. Almost at the end of the video. Just thought you might be able to chase up an owner manual.

    Use a small motor gearbox. The way you have it drawn it will spin so fast you will not get consistent results from the rotation. Second.... no real need for Arduino but you could do it that way. Third.... instead of time, use a position switch like an opto or hall effect.

    Single phase motor

    Fair enough BUT where are you measuring from to get this reading? Rotation usually requires around 1/2 to 3/4 speed to changeover the switch so how did you manage that on a 2850rpm motor? Or did you manually change it with a screwdriver or whatever?

    Try this ......Relay is a standard normally open type spst (single pole single throw) or you can use any that have changeover contacts spdt (single pole double throw) ....voltage same as supply to the Leds. May have to check on what supply you are using though, could have a bearing on the outcome.
