    I'd say your connections should be as in the attached drawing. 1.25 = run 2.5 = start 4.4 or whatever is series combination of start and run. ............See diagram below Note that direction reversal is by reversing current flow through run winding with respect to the start.

    Sounds like just the job for a microcontroller like Arduino. Fairly cheap all around as far as I can see. The hurdle for you is the programming. If you know someone preferrably local that can help you there then all ok.

    You are correct AK.....my mistake. OK so reposition the mosfet to the bottom, change to N type and invert the hall signal with a small transistor.The magnet goes on the "back" of the hall effect like I said. You can check the reasoning on Allegro web site.

    You can find details of how this works on the Allegro web site. Hall stays on so long as steel in front is present so technically it does not "latch" on. Latching tends to infer that a reverse polarity is required to release so this is not the case. No idea about different types of hall...
