    Speakers and Bass Frequencies

Our brain interprets the signals from our sensors and that is our perception of the signals and the world around us. The signal coming to our senses can be corrupted, but it makes no sense to me to say that perception is corrupt. The one exception to that would be if the sensor is obviously...

    Speakers and Bass Frequencies

End for you perhaps, but your saying so doesn't make it so. Just because the signal path from our body sensors to our brain is non-linear doesn't mean the signal is corrupted, it just means it's non-linear and that's how we perceive the signal. But if the path for the signal to our body is...

    Speakers and Bass Frequencies

Never implied that it was. The purpose of a bass speaker in reproducing the sound of musical instruments is not to produce high volume of bass, but to reproduce the bass accurately in the listening room at a level equal to the original sound. That still requires moving a significant quantity of...

    Speakers and Bass Frequencies

Okay, but that does bring up an interesting point. The small speaker in a headphone or earbud can produce realistic levels of low-frequency bass in the ear because it is required to move only a very small volume of air. Interestingly, I have a set of Sennheister headphones that actually have...

    Speakers and Bass Frequencies

Just because the error is non-linear doesn't mean what we hear is corrupt. By that definition of illusion, the obviously every thing we sense is a corrupt illusion, since all our sensors are non-linear. But I don't see how that is pertinent to the reproduction of accurate sound(?).

    Speakers and Bass Frequencies

Sorry, but I have no idea what point you are trying to make(?). I see nothing that is related to whether it is a tube or solid-state amp. Of course the ear is not linear, but the speaker output should be linear, since it's purpose is to reproduce the original sounds/music as faithfully as...

    Speakers and Bass Frequencies

In theory yes, but they would need to be designed to have the same low frequency response as a large speaker, which is not a trivial requirement.

    Speakers and Bass Frequencies

Yes, can use multiple small speakers to get the combined needed low frequency air movement. But how is that an advantage over one larger speaker?

    Speakers and Bass Frequencies

Not similar, especially for volume levels. More air has to be moved for a given volume level, as the sound frequency goes down. That's why tweeters are the smallest, and midrange and bass speakers are larger. Thus bass speakers are required to move the most air to give high volume levels at the...

    Understanding audio splitter in reverse

Yes, as AK stated, connecting two outputs in parallel should not be done without resistors to isolate the two outputs.

    Opamp Filter circuit

Besides using Fourier analysis, which can be a little complicated, you can use piece-wise linear transient analysis. If the pulse rise-time is fast, then the capacitor will have close to zero impedance and you can replace it with a short for the pulse rise (giving a gain of 1 in your circuit)...

    Opamp Filter circuit

The pulse is an AC signal consisting of many Fourier frequencies. What exactly do you expect to see (or want to see) with the pulse input, as random component selection obviously didn't work?

Then random results should be no surprise.

    Slow down AC fan speed

Delta Prime, your posted capacitor connection will affect all switch positions, and the TS only wants it to slow the slow position. Thus the capacitor should be put in series with the left wire to the resistor.

    Slow down AC fan speed

The switch likely just connects to different winding taps on the motor, so adding the capacitor in series with the slow tap should be okay.

    Slow down AC fan speed

Why not put it in a small electrical box, in series with the plug, as I did? Seems like that would be a lot easier.

    Slow down AC fan speed

Of course, but a fan load is greatly reduced as the fan speed is lowered. More slip only causes more current if the motor load is increased at a constant applied voltage.

    Slow down AC fan speed

Yes, but you need to understand AC power, which can be a little tricky. There are resistive ohms and reactive ohms, and in this case they are reactive ohms from the capacitor, which do not dissipate power. In a capacitor, the voltage and current are 90 degrees out-of-phase so if you multiply the...

    Slow down AC fan speed

Not sure how much the current will be reduced (since there may be some reactive current which dissipates no power), but the power certainly will be. The capacitors dissipate no power, and since the fan will be using less power, then the power from the source must also be reduced. There is no...

    Opamp Filter circuit

It does have gain (of 1). Because at that simulated frequency, C1 has a very low impedance which basically shorts out R1, so the op amp is acting like a non-inverting follower amp with a gain of 1. As the frequency is lowered to the corner transition frequency of C1 and R1, the gain will...
