    Combining multiple power sources

My original thought was to harness all my power banks and any other source producing 5v.. solar or even a dynamo.... So my plan was 5 diodes and 5 (1ohm resistors at 3watts or so) and combine all the sources straight into a larger switching regulator Is there a more efficient way to avoid...

    EMP attack!

I was thinking if war starts one of the first weapons to get used would be an EMP warhead, what's the best way to protect our electronics from one? Aluminium Foil? Metal Box? Half a ton of anti static electronic bags? Live in a Metal Cage?

I've only ever built this once, but it did the job....

Anyone come across an electronic battery?

if there isnt one, I'm going to think up one and build it, I'm thinking a microcontroller and a screen, set the output voltage 3/5/9/12v etc, and then you tell it how big the battery is, eg 100ma it then runs whatever electronics you want and delivers 100ma of current when finished it tells you...

    Craig's (mine) Joule Thief

I created it after buying a bunch of solar qx5252f ic's, which turned up 3 months late, so I built a diy one until they did. even though I built it years ago, I never did end up comparing which was more efficient

    power surges

if a power surge occurs we would see a power surge across every lamp post? and power coming on if surges took place we would see all the lights flicker, right?... I wanted to ask this question in the twilight zone but admin banned me from posting in there years ago... so I'm forced to post...

    The observer effect

does this imply we are all simulated? if nothing is conscious and observing an object, just like in a computer game to save cpu clock cycles, simply don't render the object, you only render what you look at and nothing else... if you're looking in front of you and nobody else is in the room as...

before looking at the screenshot... does a BMS control/regulate current when cells are stacked in series?

    Faulty Electronics and Ethical Practices

10 to 20 years ago, people threw out their broken electronics as once it stopped working it was too pricey to fix it was worth the extra for a brand new... now people want $$$ for their broken crap because they're under the assumption everyone can repair it and only they, can't... if the...

    I think I got abducted...

Ok I'm talking to people who design and build electronics so there for you are smart and can explain things the average person can not .. I have a UPS and when the power goes out you can hear the relay Clunk as the magnetic field collapses and the the inverter kicks in, I also have a security...

what kind of switch do I need

I want to use a switch to control a voltage regulator output voltage by using 2 100k pots, what's the best way of switching between the 2 pots to output the 2 selectable voltage? (I lifted the pot off the regulator already)& would a dpdt be up to the job or do I need extra circuitry? thanks....

    Is voltage negotiation required?

My phone will charge from 9v once it negotiated with the charger to step up 5v to 9v be wall charger or power bank so what happens if I simply dial in 9v and feed it directly in? would that give me fast charge?

    Physical difference between low/high transformers?

I tried googling it, but it's obscure .. Is there a pychical difference between a high frequency transformer and a low one (mains 50/60hz) Are the cores different? Eg what happens if i take a huge old transformer designed (and by this, precisely what is the difference?) For mains and...

    Microwave Transformer Step Down

Anyone ever tried that? Using an old transformer replacing the secondary winding with a thick copper core cable and just wrap it the few times you can to get huge amps low vac? I guess a high frequency switch mode transformer is more efficient for this job... But anyone here ever done it...

Got given a blown car charger

A mate of mine reverse polaritied his car dashcam recorder's car power supply, opened it up to find 1 exploded ic switcher, the diode measured oy 0.1v across the diode (not a schottky, i checked) Replaced it all except for the electrolytic caps which survived, i found it interesting that they...

mains rectified voltage for christmas lights

Using a capacitor to drop directly from mains can be used on a low AC voltage too! So why not use a capacitor 24ac to get it down to closer to 12v and then a zener to regulate it (low current)

    USB Wifi Dongle Issue

I spent 10 bucks on a wifi dongle, and well returning bad electronics is no where near as much fun as trying to repair bad electronics.. after about 4 hours of assuming it's me installing the wrong drivers, rather than a hardware fault, let me explain, i plug in the wifi dongle, it detects, usb...

    Electronics vs Temperature

No i got your attention by a vague title, someoneon fb asked an interesting question which brought up a 2nd question 1. Why do cpus die at around 140c when there's not much that melts, all i can think of is the trace lines melt or solder ? Why can't we run them at 300c and forget the fan, maybe...

    Parallel Bridge Rectifiers. .

My bridge rectifier died, but i have several 2amp rectifiers doing nothing, AC side it can supply 5amps at 13v (AC) to 19v when rectified.. Can i just parallel them? Otherwise i'll dump these and use 4 regular 1 amp diodes..
