You can still access Chinese and Latin American sites and be prosecuted for doing so.
The Chinese or South Americans are going to fly all the way to Canada to fine me for downloading something from there? Or someone from their embassy here will visit me?
I don't even know where the files are coming from. I just pick a few sites that have what I want and keep the fastest one downloading. With high-speed cable, a file takes only a few seconds to download.

That's the problem audioguru, the Chinese and South American goverenments don't care much about copywirght, that's why there lots of illegal sites over there but you can still face prosecution in Canada for downloading copyrighted material from China or South America.

I'm not saying don't do it, I'm just saying be very careful - someone at my brother's university had to pay a large fine for downloading copyrighted material.

It is not any government or embassy who will react on this matter. It is the copyright owner and their lawyers who see no borders just an IP address and will come down on an illegal user like a tonne of bricks no matter where you are.  8)

I'm just a little guy. They should go after the big, bad guys who sell the copies.

A couple days ago some Chinese stores near me were raided and 150,000 pirate DVD's were confiscated by the cops. They're worth a lot of money. Now the cops can sell them.
The same crooks and stores were raided and charged last year.
