I recently have made some rs485 cables, where i just put regular smd end resistors in between the data pairs or a standard cat5e cable. This works well, however I do struggle a bit with the precision of the tools I currently have.
Since I prefer to not hold the wire down against a metal plate (because I then struggle with metal that lead the heat away) - I tend to use the cheap couple (yes I have two) of "Third Helping Hands" - just like this (ebay link) - so that the wire and the resistor hangs in the air while soldering.

This works most of the time, but the issues with this model for this purpose is
- The pliers are in general too small to firmly hold the smd component. As a workaround I mounted a small pair of pliers - more or less on top of the grip. It kind of works, but it looks very home made, and the mounting method is not always stable. Heating glue can work, but only if very small amount of heat from the solder station are used.
- The tool itself doesn't offer fine mechanical adjustments. This is the biggest problem I have. The most precision I can get is by moving the tools itself on the table. The fastening screws require too much hand force, so each time a screw must be fastened, some angle of the tool will move without my control.

I get the work done, that is not the issue. But I'm looking for a tool that can hold a small item (like smd component) and also offer very fine manual adjustments (angle of the arms).

I'm well aware I probably ask for something that doesn't exists, but if by some chance someone in here happens to know of such product, I'd happy to know.

Do you have access to a 3D printer? There are a few option, see e.g. here.
No. I was planning to buy myself one last autumn, but then economy. Maybe next year. Until then I'm looking for something ready made for the purpose.

Well - not what I'm looking for - I think. If someone have tested this and can say for sure the grips can be adjusted in a very precise manner then maybe. Otherwise I wouldn't buy if it's not offering substantively more precision compared to what I've already have.

Or DIY ones from off the shelf parts like so.
Thank you for suggestion, I'll consider this one.
