I have a DSC 832 and am getting a a Trouble Code. When I do a *2, the
Trouble code is "1" (Service Required). Then I press "1" to get the
specific trouble condition and it says "3" (General System Trouble).
The manual describes this as:

"This trouble will be present if the PC5204 Power Supply Module has an
AUX failure, PC5204 Output #1 Trouble, or a printer connected to the
PC5400 Printer Module has a fault (off-line)."

I don't have a PC5204 or a Printer Module. I have the stock DSC 832
with only an interior siren connected to the output.

FWIW, my alarm panel is located directly above my dryer in the utility
room. Prior to this trouble code I noticed that when running the dryer
it would generate a trouble code, which would then go away when the
dryer turned off. I figured the panel was sensitive to the high
humidity, heat,or moisture from the dryer.

Anyway, any ideas what the problem could be? Did I fry the panel
maybe? Battery problem? Total coincidence? Not sure where to go from
here.

I can provide further configuration specifics from here if needed.

With this panel, I've found that if it sees something it doesn't like, it
will show that trouble, and keep on showing it even when the problem is
gone. Check all your physical wire connections, make sure everything is as
it's supposed to be, then 902 and 903 it (to do another "look" at all the
devices on the system, and chances are it will go away.

If not, you'll have to dig a little deeper.

Driers generate tons of humidity which electronic circuit boards don't like.
You probably ought to relocate the panel, regardless if this is the direct
cause of the current trouble (and it probably is).

OK, so this trouble code is sort of a general catch-all trouble code it
sounds like. I will do as you suggest. Other than the trouble code,
the system works just fine...I have tested everything in terms of
doors, PIR, alarm, etc...all works fine. Anyway, I'll give that a try.

Thanks Robert. As much as I don't want to do it, I think you're
absolutely right. I think it will be less work to relocate the dryer
though.

It may be just a matter of moving the panel over a few feet...possibly you can leave the old box with all the wires where it is and just add another box with the panel it in...then jump the zones over. It may be heat/humidity overheating the panel, powersupply, battery if it's right over the dryer. How old is the batt?

Maybe so but that may entail relocating the wife -- never an easy option.

I dunno... My wife has sometimes threatened to find a new use for
"Tupperware". You know... the little plastic containers that wind up at
the back of the Fridge with "something" in them from around 1964. In most
"mysterious disappearance" cases I've read about, the cops have never looked
inside the Tupperware that's behind the beer... )

Yeah, sort of ! I had an 864 with a multitude of things on it. One of the
guys kept pulling out the power supply for one of the modules which kept
giving me this trouble....hadda move the power supply to somewhere
inaccessible.

When I 902 and 903'd it, the problem went away every time. But the trouble
remained even after the power supply was plugged back in until you did
this......

Yah...the ones that glow in the dark! yep! Usually have to call Hazmat guys to come pick them up.

How close is the 220 vac line for the dryer to the panel. When the dryer
is on this line will have a strong magnetic field that can affect the
operations of the alarm panel.

Of course, heat/humidity are your main concern. These are two of the
biggest electronic killers next to static. Move the panel a few feet and
I'll bet you all your main problems will go away. Do you have the
ability or know someone who can upload the troubles and buffer? This
will often help determine what the "general failure" is.
