I have a couple of thermal fuse which I bought to replace burnt ones in step-down transformers. Would one of these do to replace the one in the fridge?

I don't think they are "re-settable" though!

Well, not ideally.
They are designed to be placed in the windings where thermal conductivity is used.

The type you have works on the ambient temp.

Besides the temp setting of those (I assume) is much higher.

The part turned out to be a bimetallic switch when taken apart. Thank you all for contributing towards my query.
