bacteria is in water, not old oil. it's not a biohazard. it's french fry
oil. there's no methanol in a wvo conversion, only in biodiesel as you
pointed out. we are not discussing biodiesel.

Don't be daft, bacteria grow anywhere, particularly where food is concerned.

try working with used oil. all the gross growing stuff is in the water.
when we settle the water out, the algae and junk goes with it, not the
oil. I collect and filter this stuff daily. I burn a good 15 gallons a
day of the stuff in the veggiegen and the woodstove.

It's been out of the fryer for a matter of hours - restaurants don't have
the facilities to store for longer. But even if it wasn't, heating it up
to fryer temp would fix that.
and I believe methanol is used in the making of Bio diesel

Running your VW on used fryer oil doesn't involve making biodiesel.
Commercial biodiesel needs to meet other criteria (e.g., doesn't gel at low
temps). I don't know Steve's setup, but the one I know of uses separate
tanks. The veggie oil is used when the vehicle's warm, regular diesel
otherwise.

Two tanks, one for diesel, one for veggie. coolant heater in the veggie
tank. when the veggie comes up to engine temperature, then switch to
veggie. before shutdown, switch back to diesel to flush veggie from
system. It's 4F today and the veggiegen is purring nicely.
