The transistors in the transmitter don't have bias current so their output will be zero until a certain input level is reached. The result with enough input level is extreme distortion.
The receiver applies a fairly high current through your headphones which probably burned them out!

Thanks. I was near 5000 and I tried to cheat a little. I corrected spelling in some old posts hoping that each revision would be counted. Nope.
Why are there so many lousy designs on the web? ???
There are too many for us to fix. Many use old obsolete parts.
Maybe the circuits on the web should all be deleted or re-formatted then only good designs posted. ;D

Yes it’s true, quite a few projects use obsolete parts or hard to get parts but often they can be substituted with modern parts. I think most circuits work even though many can be greatly improved by an ace like you. ;D The once which don’t work at all must be made by mistakes or typos. 8)
