Either I am not understanding (which is quite possible!) or not explaining myself well.

I understand your current keyboard connects via PS/2.
You can get a splitter/adaptor something like this.http://www.versalent.biz/smarty.htm
With this you can use 2 ps/2 keyboards at once. Read all the info on it.

Then you can hook up 2 keyboards, one at normal height to type on and use as normal. and one on the floor as a footswitch.
Remove keys you do not need and glue cabinet knobs on the ones you want to be a footswitch.

AHA, thanks for that, ideal answer. If my trigger device doesn't work I'll fall back on it. Trouble with dealing with US is that their postal rates are frightening! By the time the price is converted to NZ dollars and post is added, the product will be about $100+

:)

No problem

Know what you mean I am in Canada. Usually cheaper to find a canadian distributor of a similar product and pay more.

Thanks,, sent E-mail to them asking about the product and got the enclosed reply........Deigh ..

I have not used it with MACs … if they conform to the PS2 communications spec then the Smart-Y will work. But I do not believe that standard MAC keyboards are PS2 devices are they? My understanding is that MAC’s have their own keyboard protocol which is not the same as PS2. And I don’t believe that MAC keyboards even use the same 6-pin mini-DIN connector. These devices (SMART-Y) were made and tested for PC’s with PS2 keyboards – beyond that I cannot confirm any compatibility with other devices.

So, reading between the lines, it will probably not work on a mac.

Well that sucks.

Go on a mac forum and ask them about it. Tell them what you want to do and what you have.
Hopefully someone there can tell you.

Here is what I could find.http://www.lesswaiting.com/info100.html
"ADB: Older Macintosh and other Apple computer systems have ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) ports, which look similar to PS/2 ports. ADB accessories are usually less expensive than USB or wireless models. According to wikipedia.org, pre-1998 Macintosh systems and the Apple IIgs have ADB ports..... When connecting an ADB keyboard and mouse to some Apple Macintosh computer models, you may be surprised to find that there is no 2nd ADB port for the mouse, especially if you are more familiar with IBM/PC-compatible computer systems. This is because there is a port on the bottom or side of the keyboard for connecting the mouse to. It is actually possible to connect two ADB keyboards to a Macintosh computer at the same time, by plugging the 2nd keyboard into the first keyboard's mouse port (then the mouse can connect to the 2nd keyboard if desired)."

Does your keyboard have a socket in it for connecting a mouse? Perhaps you could buy an ADB keyboard that does.

Thanks for your efforts but the PB190 is like me long in the tooth, it has had a hard life as portables do. There is no mouse hole, I ripped it out a couple of years ago when that area had a mass of faults and I had to rewire the power supply by cutting out the socket and replacing it with a short length of wire and a DC power line socket. This is not an uncommon remedy for old Macs.

No, the remote finger plan is still in operation and I do a little more to it every day. I am wondering when it is completed whether I should carve the trigger to look like a human finger or whether I should be outrageous and make it look like a part of the male anatomy which I cant mention in case I am banned from this forum.

The remote trigger has another advantage, When I am at home I use an equally old Mac LC3 desktop computer to play the backings on. The trigger would be instantly adaptable to use on it.

Hey, just back in the forum asking silly questions about reverb and realised I hadn't finished this thread.
Ended up with a foot operated pedal which tightened a bike brake cable Which moved a physical finger onto the spacebar of the Macintosh. Here are some pix.
sorry for lousy pix but not easy to do. Anyhow the system workx!

Yeah, well I'm a bit long in the tooth and it takes me quite a while sometimes to turn an idea into a practical application. Actually I come out with a new idea about once a month. Most never even get further than just a thought. Many others I do complete but fail to market them because of manufacturing problems. Several go to the stage of checking the patents available and a couple actually got patented. One of two I made quite a lot of money out of, but generally I just like inventing. I would like to find someone with computer and electronic skills (and also marketing aptitude!) to take the odd idea a bit further.
