My house has a FBI Star XL 4600 alarm installed in it. The system was
here when we bought the house. We are the 3rd owners, and the people we
bought from had no clue about thet system. Until recently, the only
problem I've had is when I shut power to the house to do some electrical
work, it chirps for ~20 minutes or so.

We've never pushed any of the buttons on the keypad or messed with it at
all. I've figured out which zones are what doors just by opening them
and watching the lights on the keypad, so the sensors appear to work.
There are 4 door sensors and one motion that I know of.

This morning at ~5:20 AM, the keypad started beeping very loudly. I
looked at the keypad and the non-zone lights were blinking in order (Arm,
Stay, Inst, AC/LB). It stopped after 15-20 minutes, but then started
again when my wife walked past the motion sensor (or maybe that was a
coincidence). I decided to try taping a piece of cardboard or something
over the motion sensor. As soon as I opened the door to the garage to go
get a ladder, the system shut up (that door has a sensor). I taped
something over the motion sensor and it's been quiet since (~1 hour).

Right now, the lights on the panel are as follows:
Arm is blinking
Stay, Inst are off
AC/LB is solid
Ready is green.

Any thoughts on why this happened? I am in Tempe, AZ. Anyone local that
can help me out? Or is there some way that I can either a) completely
disable this system, ie. power it down (without setting off the siren or
horn that appears to be mounted in the heating/AC duct); or b) reset the
system and program it, etc?

I'm leery of tinkering with it, since I don't want to set it off (have a
6 month old son). I am an electrical engineer, so am comfortable working
with electronics, etc. but basically have no knowledge of alarm systems.
There is a box mounted on the wall in the laundry room (that has the
model name, etc) that has a phone cord coming out, then goes right back
in. I'm guessing that is where the main circuit board is loacted?

Any help or information is appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a bad battery.....

Just find the transformer and unplugg it. Then locate a security company near
you to replace and reprogram your system for you....ie code to shut it off
after it starts beeping...

Do yuo know who installed it? Also what state are you in?

Take care.......
